    I don't agree entirely. If you know somebody well enough to call them a name in jest then their religion wouldn't be an issue. I used to work with a Muslim lad who we called names in jest and took the pi55 out of mercilessly but he wasn't bothered (and he gave it back in spades). Had somebody he didn't know said some of the things we said he'd have probably chinned them. Likewise there was a girl in the office who took offence on his behalf and complained to the manager at the time but as he confirmed he wasn't bothered, offended or insulted no further action was taken.

    My sister is a teacher - got her class of 7 year olds to draw a picture of their house. One youngster drew a house with plants growing on top of the roof - little lad was questioned and said there were plants growing in his attic - with gentle? questioning he said that the plants had a funny smell....
    Sister reported this to the head who told police who presumably visited said child's family - two days later most of school windows smashed....

    I think that's your assumption rather than fact isn't it? The Rotherham scandal was down to incompetence (people and systems/processes) rather than a fear of being labelled racist. Also agree with Marc's point below.

    The windows being smashed should not be a reason to refuse to divulge this information again. You can't let intimidation win or else criminals will be running the country in no time.

    No it was in the report on the incident; there was a culture of fear of being labelled a racist.

    But nothing to substantiate that fear as genuine?Where's the examples of people in authority being found to be racist (not merely have it said but action taken against you) for following up on such incidents?

    I call the Muslim lads I work with all kinds of non PC stuff, as they do me. No offence is meant and no offence is taken. But these are lads I work with 8 hours a day, for the last two years. I didn't instantly mock them the minute we met. We built up that relationship over time. My first day back today and they were asking where my tan was which led to some skin colour banter. I asked them how Ramadan was going, which led to more piss taking about my weight even though I'm not fasting etc. Just well intentioned laughs with fellow workers based on our ethnic and religious differences.

    But you referring to a section of our society as curry chompers is just blatant trolling and quite offensive. So give up the act of innocence mate. We know what you are.

    No different to referring to Jocks as, Battered mars bar munchers, do you think the jocks who see that as offensive, or would they just laugh at it. If you call a kid with a big forehead button moon head he can actually lol that loud and nearly wakes his other half up, but you call a ageing Muslim a Father Christmas because him beards going grey and it's met with outrage why ? Explain why

    right. here goes. what you are doing is stereotyping a huge collection of people you don't know, based on some loose cultural assumption or association. you are not addressing or identifying with the individual on any level. you have never met these people, and haven't earned the right to make assumptions on what they should or shouldn't find disrespectful. your entire belief system appears to be based on what you think is and isn't offensive, not what the other person might be offended by. that shows zero respect whatsoever, to other people. the fact that you and your work buddies abuse each other all day and indulge each other in this, doesn't give you the right to apply that in any way you want, to whoever you want, without people being offended.

    someone raised another thread asking about ramadan. you have no idea why that question was important to them. your response was 'why does tha care?'. point proved.

    Our lass has just been given a verbal warning at work because she called her line manager a 'Scottish Bitch'. This was said, out of work and in a private conversation in WhatsApp. The conversation was with 4 so called friends. One of them went blabbing to the line manager at work.

    Her warning was for 'racist comments' in that she used the adjective 'Scottish' when calling her a bitch. PC gone crazy.

    If I walked up to a Scottish lad I didn't know and called him a Battered mars bar muncher I'd expect offence to be taken yes.

    Your example using Whitey is nonsense as a relationship has been built where it is accepted and both parties know that.
