    It's sad in the year 2015 a nationality is still classed as a race just so people can call it racist. The French call us Le Roast Beef and we don't find it offensive. Some folks get called Yorkshire Puddings for banter for being from Yorkshire and it's just laughed off. Your lass shouldn't have been told off for what she said.

    Her nationality is irrelevant to her bitchiness to start with so the addition of the word Scottish is considered to be a slur against her in that context. Rightly or wrongly.

    And you don't think she should be disciplined for calling her boss a bitch? Why don't you try it tomorrow at work and see what happens. My head of department is a Scottish lady, if I called her that I think I'd be lucky to keep my job.

    to be fair, she did call a colleague a scottish bitch. that doesn't sound like a very nice thing to say. i'm guessing it wasn't friendly banter with the person involved?

    Back on topic, I think this puts teachers in a very difficult position. Not only are they expected to be educators, role models and social workers, they are now expected to spot burgeoning political extremists. I hope they are giving adequate training.

    The problem is, if you incorrectly identify someone as an extremist are you labelled a racist, but punished for failing to spot the signs - no matter how subtle they may be.
