You are of course correct as there's absolutely no way that a man can be referred to as anything other than a man. I went to Morrisons this morning and the securityman checked people were wearing masks. I had my bread cut by the bakerman and asked the store assistantman if he knew where the Bovril was kept. He was a lovely store assistantman. I then went to the checkout where checkout operatorman was a bit of an arse to be honest.
I know you are trying to be smart with your sarcastic response but I was referring to the fact that the game of cricket throughout the history of the game has named the batter we are talking about as a night watchman, now if this is now offending the female players then just use the term in the mans game & come up with some other alternative for the ladies game, myself I think its a load of nonsense & we should stay with the traditional but others will probably disagree .
There's absolutely no harm in just using nightwatcher though. It doesn't hurt you but girls seeing night Watchman and batsman etc when they watch cricket DOES in a small way affect their mindset of wanting to play it. There's no law saying you can't call someone a night watchman if you want but that's not what you said is it. You said it HAS to be that
Do we then do away with the position of third man next ? or should we no longer have a 12th man ? in my opinion in the mens game leave it as a night watchman & call it what ever the ladies like in the ladies game , I have no problem with that , but you are trying to make an issue out of something I have said, I am merely offering my opinion , it does not make my opinion right or wrong it is just an opinion .
Third is called third. Third. Unfortunately you fail to see how your “opinion” could be harmful and insulting to 50% of the population.
Please explain to me how my opinion is harmful or insulting to anyone , we are on about a game of cricket , a game which has been with us for over 150 years , a game we have never had a problem with regarding the names of the players or fielding positions etc , my comments are purely about the game , a game which I played for years & then gave something back by coaching juniors of both sexes with no problems & then umpired with no problems , so please do not insult me trying to make out that my comments are on anything other than the names of the players & positions of the game , your comment is actually insulting to me .
Plenty of ladies play club cricket in "men's" teams/leagues. Why should they be sent to Third Man? Or told to be the next batsman? Surely by making cricketing terms more inclusive it is a happy medium for everyone?
Wow have you just played the victim! Well done that’s pretty special by any standard. And that’s why you’ll never understand I guess. You might be from a generation that didn’t need to think about this I don’t know. I do know it affects you zero percent to use a gender neutral term. Literally zero.
You are making a mountain out of a mole hill ,instead of offering different opinions on the BBS about all things football & other sports it seems that everything has to be turned into a soap box style political statement , I passed my comments purely on cricket terminology not on equality, political correctness or anything just purely discussing cricket, but you have to try impose your soap box style , well I have news for you , not everyone in this world wants to have peoples beliefs pushed down their throats, I will continue to comment on all things sport & with no personal agenda"s , I am not at all interested in politics or political debate , I am no victim & am not special by any standard so do not patronise me, I just like friendly chat yet it seems that some are more intent on jumping on every word or comment made & simply looking for things that actually are not there .
