Hope I'm wrong but I'm worried the report is going to be a bit of a 'Graywash'. The liar is being too smug for comfort, even for him, in his interviews so far today.
There would be something unfulfilling about Boris having to resign after an internal investigation into a Downing Street party. It's like Al Capone being arrested for tax evasion. I'd much rather he swung for the 350mn-to-the-NHS Brexit Bus
Seems to me it'll be covered up, a lot of redaction. I think he knows what it's going to say and he there's nothing in there that can finish him off. Or nothing that they can't spin. Backbenchers seem to be rallying quite a bit too, they fear a general election.
My word, attitudes like this will deliver another Tory majority next election. You’d like that though presumably. We get the government we deserve.
I’m not fussed what gets him out. As long as he goes. My fear is who comes after him. Very similar desire and fear about our owners too - I want them out, but do wonder what we will get to replace them.
'kin ell. The published report is only slightly longer than the official BFC statement when Stendel was sacked. Looks like it was written on the bus on the way in. https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...ent-premises-during-covid-restrictions-update
Tells you enough. Without prejudicing any police action. Still damning. Hopefully the report will also show any police shortcomings. Given the fact they appeared to be ignorant (lol) of what was happening.
The General findings section even heavily watered down is pretty damning and in any sane world would lead to several resignations including the person in overall charge of and featuring in several of the unlawful gatherings - ie the head clown It wont though and I guess the rest of the party will wait for the results of the police investigation before deciding what to do
It certainly sounds like the full report will be pretty hard-hitting. Interesting that Johnson is not named, if he were that would guarantee that he's not being investigated by the MET, so there is still a chance he'll get a fine.
He's failed on multiple occasions to answer 2 questions (from his party and others). Will he publish the full report unredacted when it is concluded. And was he at the party in his private Downing Street flat that is under investigation by the police (seemingly a party that took place after Cummings left). He's toast. It's evident he was at the one in his flat or he would have denied it and it would relieve a little of the pressure. That its being investigated show it has exceeded the threshold to be a significant offence.
I'd be keeping stum and brush the whole thing under carpet if I was leader of the opposition. Just save it as a weapon for the next Gen election and get on with the matters impacting the country right now. Look at this from a different perspective. If Johnson is ousted now, the Tories will elect someone, and probably someone who will be more firmly in the central ground of the political landscape this time. That will only lead to one thing I reckon, the polls will even up again and another 5 years in power. Plus I think the majority of normal folk are just fed up of hearing about it now. It's obvious there have been breaches, just give em all a police caution and move on. Let the public judge at the ballot box.
Sadly, there’s a lot in this. Johnson’s strategy is to be so surrounded by misinformation and noise that he can just get on with doing the important damage under the radar. The public are sick of the fuss about ‘parties’ in the same way they were sick of hearing about Brexit. Too many see life like soap opera scripts, they just want a conclusion rather than have to worry about the consequences or the detail. And historically, it’s why the right win elections, because simplistic slogans appeal and complex truthful debate is just boring. The only chance for a Labour win is when the Tories forget this and put up a leader like Major, who doesn’t play the crowd leaving them open to the scrutiny (18 years of promises to make us better off and we’re poorer).
Yes, I do think if we were to go to another election with Johnson at the helm for the Tories it will cost them the next election. But if they replace him, they will probably secure another term. So it's a case of do they wait it out for the short term or risk the longer.
You're going to have to surgically remove DePfeffel from office. The back end of the commons statement was quite telling. DePfeffel just went full on 3 year old with replies either constituting a proper red faced rant or a child life refusal to answer the question. He'll be done for. He should have gone already, for so many things, but the tory candidates all pledging fealty are the ones waiting for him to tank in the local elections, for the cost of living crisis to bubble and potential criminal findings to be found.
