we should have stuck with him , we may have gone down but I am confident he would have brought us back the people on here who dislike him dont want people to tell them how things are , Keith stated the truth (in a lancs accent) and paid the price
What? A manager that wasn't backed? There is. Keith Hill. Even without including the Stones money (he was Keith's developed player, not Flickers) he made us more money than he spent. Did Robins? Davey? Flitcroft? And all the other three were backed with proper signings at the right time. Keith was hung out to dry in January 2012, and then again in the Summer. Just my opinion. Not trying to say he was awesome or owt, and I admit he got a lot wrong. But he got a lot right and folk keep making out he didn't, and try to blame him (bizarrely) for our current spell up **** creek. Rochdale. Top of the league, spent **** all. Managed it in just over a year. Reight manager.
Just not in the championship for us, that 2nd season was awful. He brought loads of players in too, maybe not many marquee signings but plenty of players. His choices. He was backed within the budget, plenty of wages taken on. He obviously has something mind with the success he has at Rochdale, be interesting to see how they do in L1.
He fell out with Rowing early on, that didn't help. He was disgusted at the Vaz fee, the contract ******** with Jacob, and in my opinion, by the Summer of 2012 he was probably hoping for a way out. It's well known that he was applying for other jobs that Autumn. Had interviews at Blackburn and Blackpool. I think he gave in towards the end. He looked and sounded a broken man by then. I remember his last interview, where he kept bigging up the supporters (pre Blackburn, his final hour, and a half). The previous week, he laid into the players for the first time. A month previous, he said his new loanees were Championship quality. He was making digs at the club and board a lot that season. The Rowing/Keith relationship was on it's arse. Very much like the Ritchie/Shepherd one I assume. And I know for a fact Cryne was always going to give Keith as long as possible. He liked him. So did I. But the results and football wouldn't change and he became the latest 'failed' manager. The signing of Mido on 5k a week takes some defending, however. As does his treatment of certain players. And his approach with supporters. But folk think it was an anti BFC thing. It really wasn't. It was just his way. He was like that at Dale first time around. He's changed slightly this time around. He definitely learned a lot at Oakwell. I will always regard him as unlucky as our manager, but a stubborn, big headed arsehole as well. But a good manager all the same, and with the backing then afforded to Flicker or the backing given to Davey, we'd have probably seen that good manager for more than the 5 or 6 decent months of his tenure. Bad manager at Oakwell for BFC? Perhaps, yes. Results wise definitely. But bad manager full stop? No. And certainly not deserving of abuse etc when he returns here with Rochdale. But then, most of those who can't stick him were probably the same folk who booed him and his players just 30 minutes into his first home game as manager...
So you compare div 4 results the same as championship results ? Not comparable He is a good manager and gad the rug pulled from under him Vaz Drinkwater Butterfield
Ok he's the worst manager in our history at Championship level. He had the same backing as most other managers other than Clarkey. Just couldn't hack it. I could list the ***** players instead Park, Kennedy, Done...
Mido. The clever **** was told by many that knew him not to bother. But old big ead wannabe ignored them all and *****ed **** knows how much He will always be liked at Dale. Deffo no history there.
I can't believe that people actually fall for the poor me spiel of Keith Hill he had comparable financial backing to more successful managers like Bobby Collins, Mel Machin, Clark Mark 2 and Danny W mark 1 who all also had to flog their star players.
We weren't relegated with him as manager, so I don't see how he can be deemed our worst second tier manager. Unless you're going on PPG and all that ******** that ignores context etc. He did what Robins and Davey did, with less money. Kept us up by the skin of our teeth. It went pear shaped at the end no doubt, but we'll never know if he would have turned it around. We'll never know whether any manager can do that until we actually ******* back somebody. But maybe Danny will get that backing/support? I hope so. His record since returning is pretty **** in terms of PPG isn't it? We need to back a horse. Through good and bad, long term. It helps if you back the right one. I believe Robins or Hill were those kind of horses. Flitcroft I don't believe was even a horse at all. More of a donkey. Lost last night to bottom club Torquay despite flying down there all expenses paid. They're now just 4 points off the relegation zone, not won for six games. Manager of the month curse perhaps?
Folk told him not to go for Vaz Te either. Danny Wilson had Vaz on trial at the Blunts before we signed him.... didn't fancy him. Perspective.
Not that old chestnut. If Portsmouth hadnt cheated then they might not have accumulated those 10 points that they had deducted.
That's like saying Fulham are the worst team in the country this season as they've only got 24 points, when its obviously Torquay as they sit bottom of the FL. Had we been in the division below then I'm sure as hell Keith' s ppg would have been in the top 50% in the country.
The Vaz Te thing is a great example of the 2 sides of Keith and demonstrates why he is a great manager in League 2 but well out for his depth in the Championship. Signs him takes a punt then doesn't see the player he's got toe months but marginalises him and prefers Matty Done. People talk about a great two months under Keith and but only got them when he finally selected Vaz Te regularly even then he dropped him to sub as soon as he could. The he wasn't backed bollicks is just that. Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes fact. He was certainly backed more than half a dozen of our managers then I can think of from the top of my head. For a whole year we were the worst team in terms of the things they matter i.e. Results in the whole league and no amount of ******** can hide that.
In his last 12 months in charge we had the worst record in English football. And, he was a complete and utter bell. Thank god the last whiffs of his regime are now gone. Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk
Well it's never happened before in the history of the club regardless of which division we have been in. Like a said. Reight manager
