Can't see one reason for bringing in a below average midfielder such as Gardner.. Far better out there..

May sound daft, but I think that there is no more important signing than the new head coach. I honestly believe that we have a strong squad still, but that they just need the right man to manage, organise and motivate them. If we get the 'right' manager, I would wager that this squad is good enough to get automatic promotion. I think the morale of the squad dipped for reasons suspected, but not proved, somewhere around the Reading game away. Good players such as Harvey Barnes and Cameron McGeehan left the club soon afterwards and the downward spiral replaced the promising form. The squad is young, bruised and lacking morale and this is what the new coach needs to address, especially by motivating and encouraging the young players, rather than publicly criticising them, or leaving them out of the squad on some absurd rotation system. Get a settled and organised team; motivate them; away we go. If we sign too many more players, there will then be too many unmotivated fringe players, which won't be good for raising morale. We don't need as big a squad in League One as we had in the Championship, but we do need a coach who can turn things round. Get it wrong and we could plummet again. Let's hope we get the appointment right this time.
