Yeah, I'll go with that. They've made a rod for their own back, mind. After the endless PR fiascos, unpopular sacking and an even more unpopular appointment, all the talk of 'money to spend' would haunt them to their dying days if they weren't seen to be making an effort to spend it.

Agree entirely with the Hecky/Austin analysis. No idea about league comparisons. Remember one writer suggesting that the Dutch Eriedivision is on par with the Championship, but haven't seen it so I don't know.

The 'rod for their own back' is the fact that they've made so much clumsy publicity out of saying 'we have money to spend'. Whether it was always there or not, shouting about it incessantly would force anyone's hand.
