Its ill informed Tyrone because you are blaming Barnsley Council when it was Central Government who forced Local Authorities to do this!

New directives came from the government at the time .... or to be more precise ... the Conservatives

It seems you can get any money you want if you want to build a free school or grammar school. Just so long as you don't have those nasty things like qualified teachers or the national curriculum.

You obviously have an axe to grind with the council and wont accept the reality of the situation.

Did they do so because of budget cuts and pressure to lose unrequired (at the time) surplus places plus the pressure to upgrade our aging and underfunded unfit for purpose schools? Is it correct that they cannot build schools with extra capacity for the future just in case extra kids appear?

I find it really funny that you slate anyone who dares to suggest mistakes that have been made by Patrick cryne and bfc and who dares to suggest improvements. That you demean and belittle them with comments about your wealth compared to theirs and by highlighting that if they aren't willing to spend their own money to fund it then they shouldn't dare comment on how an organisation spends it's money yet when it comes to Barnsley council you absofuckinglutely love criticising and telling them how to spend their money.

So i will do this in the same manner that you do. Get your wallet out and build a school yourself. Until you are willing to do that then shut up

To be fair it's not 'their' money it's our money that the Local Government spend on our behalf . If Tyrones claim is true that 900 new places are needed I think it's a legitimate question to ask why when the Council has spent £1 billion pounds on new school buildings are they looking for so much more capacity . There may be a reasonable explanation , apparently Horizon is one of the largest schools in the country . In a time when people are voting to go back to 1973 may I suggest a solution could be Portacabins

Are you really blaming a local council for the sytstematic destruction of schools and forcing them to be Academies?

Because that is what is happening, and the Government isn't even trying to hide it. Just give 'em a bad Ofsted report, make them into an academy - Whoa look, privately funded schools. It's an absolute joke. Perfectly good schools with perfectly good teachers being labelled as underperforming to suit an agenda. It's absolutely scandalous, and yet the joke of a Government think it will miraculously raise standards, whilst simultaneously losing all the staff that they have put under unbearable strain.

Education in this country is the worst it has ever been in my lifetime and that has nothing to do with the local council, and everything to do with Michael Gove and his f;ckwit bunch of successors.

Your right is difficult for this council to be able to get birth figures from the local hospital and count how many kids immigrants have with them and check on local nursuries as to the numbers they have. .. not! !!!

Schools and the council have been aware of the need for extra places for years, I did work in education up to 2 years ago and it was well known years before that. ..

Essentially, this is a ploy by
.Barnsley hss a net shortfall of 900 places after as you rightly point out a major rebuilding program.

That was an ongoing policy which was scrapped. Put the blame where it should be is all I'm saying.

Where does that money come from when budgets are being slashed by central government? They might have known it was coming but they can't pull money out of a hat -it's going to get worse with school budgets being butchered in 2020. Be no teachers left let alone school for kids to be taught in
