Of course all these people with first hand professional experience who stare their is racism in football could be wrong and they could all have made their experiences up but it seems unlikely.

It doesn't prove that football is racist. I still believe that if you're good enough you will get spotted and given a chance. Asians will break through into the game but that's because they're getting better whereas previous generations played cricket.

So when an Asian footballer documents a scout telling him he has no chance because of his colour and another recalls his manager shouting racist abuse at him that doesn't mean they were racist...

It doesn't prove that football is institutionally racist. There are racists in every profession so football is going to have some too but in my experience they are in the minority.

How do you know there are fewer gay managers than black ones ?

If the first hand experiences of 2 of the handful of Asian professionals who actually play the game won't convince then nothing will.

Simple question - has Sol Campbell failed to get a coaching job because he doesn't have any qualifications or because he's black?

So just checking then. Football clubs will happily have English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Icelandic, Norwegian, Hungarian, African, American, Nigerian, Trinidadian, Brazilian, Argentinian, Egyptian, Australian, Chinese, Korean, Zambian, Slovakian, Ghanaian, Togolese, Senegalese and Zimbabwean to name just a few but because there don't happen to be many Indian or Pakistani professionals then they must be racist despite the fact that they will happily employ footballers from countries throughout the world regardless of colour. It couldn't possibly be anything to do with the fact that they aren't good enough footballers could it?

I mean, surely if India and Pakistan had such good footballers then they would surely be ranked above the likes of Nicaragua and Lichtenstein who have part time footballers in their national sides.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

He's right - it is. The mentality in football is still struggling to force its way into the mid-1970s. There are a section of fans at every club that are an embarrassment with their racist chanting, and even some of those who don't join in the singing will come on bulletin boards like this one and defend what was being sung. Players have jibes about other players because of their race/colour, and managers have digs at players over the same issues. The FA and PL is run by middle/upper class white men. The same old white managers get the same old jobs, many of them despite having terrible records.

Maybe, in time, managerial appointments will show a fairer reflection of the amount of black players in the game, but I think that even then, football will remain the last bastion of 'acceptable' racism.

Yes that's clearly the point isn't it. Not whether Sol's a pillock or not which he clearly is. At Oakwell in the earl/mid 90s my then girlfriend would come with me who was black. There was a lot of hostility and chuntering which she could cope with being the only black face in the whole ground including our team of the time was harder.

As far back as I can remember BFC have always had black players, if there were some games when there wasn't a black player in the team it was not a matter of racism. I agree there was a vocal hostility towards black players in the late 80's / early 90's and that made me uncomfortable so I can't imagine how it must have made your girlfriend feel but fair play to her for rising above the idiots and going with you.
