£2.40 really? I was under the impression that they were paid far more than that. Or at least my mate who is over there isn't paid less than half the minimum wage anyway, maybe he's luckier than the rest of them.
If I took a job offering X amount per hour, I couldn't then go to my employer and complain that I wasn't getting Y.
The money could be better spent paying for equipment to make sure that more people come home.

£2.40 an hour. A rag head nutter muslim cleric gets upwards of £40k government money. I know where id like mine spent.
The "Survey" took it as actual hours worked over a given period of time When on what you would call normal duties then yes the wage is better. but there again they won't be getting the tax releif
RE: The "Survey" took it as actual hours worked over a given period of time This £2.40 is misleading. Servicemen are paid a "Daily Rate", 365 days a year. If you divide the daily rate by 24, it does not seem much, but thats not how it works.
Only soldiers on dangerous operations for six months or more I get a bonus at work if I'm working hard and delivering against targets. Soldiers away on service for extended periods, not seeing their families, risking their lives, and working hard deserve recognition and extra reward for the work they do. Personally my attitude tends be one that opposes our country using the military, and I'd never dream of joining the forces and being asked to take part in a conflict I didn't agree with. However while I may not agree with what our armed forces are doing, I don't think it's unreasonable that they get a bonus when they are putting their lives on the line in the service of their country.
RE: Only soldiers on dangerous operations for six months or more Very true. We might not like the conflict they're involved in, but we should appreciate what the men and women of the armed forces do, and show them gratitude.
RE: Armed Forces pay get in there ... when we are out of the country on deployment i fully agree.. if we are alongside or working at ashore base then i dont mind paying taxes just like the next man ,
Its obvious that you've not served. I have, and have been to The Gulf 90-91,Bosnis 93 & NI on numerous occasions. Im not sounding off, but, those lads deserve every single penny that the government offer, in fact even more if it was available. I lost out on Overseas allowance when in Bosnia, which left my wife and two very small kids at that time with not a great deal of money. So ine effect it cost me about £500.00 a month to go to war and get shot at!! Good Eh! Its not like any other job, its your life. not some 9 til 5 either. those blokes will be doing at least 18 hour days, and this is not bullsh@t. Its not about who volunteered either if it wasnt for our forces we would all be wearing jack boots now. Rant Over!!!!
RE: Armed Forces pay I just think it's a unique situation. Maybe agree about when being UK based though, but still, 'we' ask them to do our bidding so they should be amply rewarded for it imho.
RE: Armed Forces pay fully agree , obviously when we signed up we knew the risks etc , ( in the navy we go to war with 4 hot meals a day and fridge full of beer by the way ! )
