    Cooorse it has!!

She stifled our development at a crucial time, we were a bigger and more upwardly mobile club before the strike than after.

We'd be in Champions league nar if it weren't for that cow! :D

First. Booing is stupid in this instance.

Second. if the team has just let a goal in and the booing starts well the psychological effect will be unknown.

Third. politics is intertwined with sport in the bigger picture, but I have to say that when I watch football politics is not on my mind at all.

Four. for ninety minutes the threat of relegation is more important that the death of a wizened old senile woman. If we go down or stay up she'll still be dead.

If people want to celebrate her demise then I really think have a party or a march and do it properly.

Also bear in mind that whilst there will be a significant majority who despised Thatcher there may be dissenting voices.(not me) It is assumed that there will be universal condemnation, I'm not so sure.

Finally if the crowd boos in the 84th minute and Charlton score a winning goal in that period, there may be time to reflect on this next season in league 1.

Early 80's we had one of the biggest away followings outside the top division (1 as it was then for all you young uns;))

Strike killed a lot of peoples interest and passion for the club and football in general and ,apart from a few odd years around the Prem era ,its never recovered those fans

Tongue in cheek as it maybe , who knows where we were headed with that great team and following, certainly not struggling for crowds of 8000 and forever battling relegation!!!

    YYYOOOOUUUUU RRRREEEEEDDDDDDDSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

In all seriousness I think a minutes applause for oldtimer would be far more appropriate, apologies if this as already been mentioned.

We did have a great away following from about 1978 - 1984, but we were doing really well and it was cheap. I remember the last home game in 1977-78 against Wimbledon when the crowd was about 2- 3k.

the most relevant date there is 1984.

and like shenk says we've never really picked up since, much like the rest of the area.

I was with you with the younger uns born in the 80's or after spouting off,....

but then I thought to myself its no different to us having an opinion about hitler, or any other period in time in which we wernt born.

We pay to cheer on the Super Reds and we so need a Win on Saturday. Booing at any time could be so wrong for the timing off the game. I think its a crazy idea. Politics and Sport should never be mixed. Its completely wrong. Go to London and Boo at the funeral if tha'ts what you want to do. But we should be 100% cheering our team on Saturday

It's important the young uns know their history and heritage, after all they inherited the social and economic landscape left behind by Thatcher, the strike and closing of industry. I always took my lead off the Mesters though, still do.

If 'the Miners United' goes up on Saturday, I won't be disappointed. It would be a statement of pride and self respect that will let the basterds know we're still here.

Would we stop booing if we scored half way through the minute of madness or would we carry it on then cheer after Charlton had taken their kick off.

I've posted on that thread and suggested a chant of "The miners united will never be defeated"

Surely we should be applauding on the 84th minute to show solidarity to the miners and the town. That's a better way of putting two fingers up to Thatcher. Definitely more positive than booing.

I don't see what place it has at a football match. There's plenty of other opportunities to show dislike without risking BFC's championship status.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was before the match or even at a less crucial period in the game but if we're 1-0 up and hanging on the team needs our support. Everyone booing is only going to be a hindrance to the team.

We did in 97-98 and for a couple of years after again when we were successful and the entrance didn't cost over £20 a chuck. I'm not saying that the strike didn't affect attendances but there's a myriad of other factors involved

1984 did coincide with a period when we were on the whole *****
