50% of eligible English voters did not vote for the Conservatives in 2019 or on any other election in recent times. That’s just not correct. The issue is that Labour defend FPTP when it is against the interests of any centre /left centre right voters. By rewarding them for this we make it difficult to have stable long term govt.

In 1997 the LibDems stood down for Labour with the promise of electoral reform. Blair reneging on this unofficial agreement has condemned this country to more of the same in the longer term.

the problem with giving in to those who do not want society to be better, who do not care about community who only care about self is that nothing changes other than day to day life getting worse for the poorest.

if you advocate politics where nothing is possible and nothing can change then that’s the society you get.

Labour set up the NHS and modern welfare state in the time that the country was in a much worse financial state than it is now. Can you imagine Labour doing that now?

Change comes from ambition. Once women voting would have been a pipe dream as those in power did not want it. Once normal people having a vote was impossible because the rich did not want it to be so. Those things changed because people acted out of conscience and ambition and didn’t roll over.

if we elect those who promise nothing we should not be surprised if they deliver nothing.

Blessed are those who expect little, for they shall not be disappointed.

Well looking at the article, the wording seems to indicate that Labour intends to honour it's commitments under the convention. I think that enacting it into law is more problematic and contains obvious pitfalls.

I dunno I’m gonna go with the views of all disability groups that I can find and see it as abandoning something that is key to the quality of life of disabled people. Also Labour have been proudly saying they will do this up to about 3 months ago. I’m sure nothing to do with the money they have taken from pressure groups that oppose.
