As it appears, to me anyway, that I'm in a very dark place with everything at the club. I believe we have some talented players at the club who, if managed and organised properly, could see us gradually climb the table. Jack Walton-a talented young goalkeeper, who can only get better. Jordan Williams-beginning to show everyone what he's capable of in what has been a difficult start to the campaign. Michael Sollbauer/Mads Andersen/Michal Helik-very strong central defenders. Alex Mowatt-the heart and soul of the team and when on form, a true leader. Clarke Oduor/Elliot Simoes/Callum Styles/Romal Palmer/Matty Wolf-talented youngsters who could be a solid foundation for the team's future if we simply allow them to be nurtured & developed, rather than just only use them as a cash cow. Cauley Woodrow/Conor Chaplin- Championship goalscorers when on form. Andy White/the media team-proper fans who do a terrific job and deserve respect. There's been a great deal to complain about with our club recently, but we also have many positives as well in my opinion.
Spot on JLW...If only the powers above could read this and say "Ye let's get this show rolling" because they are the only ones holding us back..
Sadly, I'll be very surprised if we have a new Head Coach and players in before the domestic deadline closes next Friday.
I hope we have a new Head Coach and the three players we need. If we sign an experienced midfielder, left back and striker who makes way? Does Oduor drop further down the pecking order? Do we drop Woodrow and keep benching Chaplin? Do we drop Styles? All questions that need answering.
We build up the squad. As an example, Oduor helped out at left wing back last season (and I thought he did very well), but has been a midfielder for most of his career. Select players on merit. Once in the team, it's up to the lad to make the position his own.
If Mowatt were to move on we definitely need a midfielder, if not I think we're not too badly placed. A new manager might want to give Bahre another chance & we have a lot of good youngsters. A left back & a back to goal type striker are essentials for me. I think loans may be the way forward, if we can't sign the right players.
Great post and good to see the positivity - despite all the other distasteful shenanigans which are going on. I've said since the start of last season, that this squad has enormous potential ...as long as we can keep them together and be patient with them as they develop in this league..
Yep, can't argue with any of that. The most frustrating thing of all is that I reckon we're within touching distance of something really special - but then I always think that!
I must admit, the one positive about this squad is their attitude. It would be easy to let their heads drop, but they don't. Throwing kids in with the hope they come off in such volumes is potentially harmful and we owe them a duty of care. Especially if they are coming to our shores from afar.
Its great that at least some of us are keeping our peckers up. But count me out. We just don’t have enough seasoned players. And we don’t have a manager. So any manager looking at the recent history of the club - the state of the playing staff - is not going to touch Barnsley with a barge pole. The club has got a huge task on its hands to persuade a decent manager to take the job. And then another huge task to persuade decent players to join the club.
Agree with most of your sentiments Lil although of late, I've not being feeling overly positive. For the life of me, I honestly can't understand why in knowing that there was a chance that Gerhard was going, the board didn't put him on gardening leave. For me, he shouldn't have been allowed to pick the team at Middlesbrough. Secondly I was disappointed with the departure and farewell message for Killian Ludewig after what the lad achieved last season. Ally to all of that, the time it is taking to get the replacement in. We have had adequate notice that Struber was going, so it would have been ideal to give the new Coach some time over the international break to aquaint himself with the squads capabilities. Notts Forest did it by appointing Chris Hughton. Why we couldn't have followed suit is puzzling as far as Im concerned.
Thanks for the reminder old mate and you're right, there are positives. Can't help feeling that the next week or so before the domestic window closes are very important. Irrespective of whether we appoint a manager I think we need to get 2/3 more players through the door either on loan deals or permanent and the most important of which is another forward imo. I'll feel more positive if we achieve that. If not, I think we'll struggle.
