it is a constitutional right? I mean did u see the Top Gear where they had the red knecks after them cos they had stuff like 'I'm gay and proud' on the side of a car. They were gunna shoot them! I mean that wouldnt get a good reaction in Barnsley but at least we dont hsave guns!

Hehe. No, I didn't. Pity - I usually watch Top Gear so I must have missed that one.

What annoys me is the argument that it is a right given by the constitution.

    1. The Constitution is meant to be a "living" document, not set in stone, it can be amended and the "right to bear arms" is an amendment anyway.

    2. The Supreme Court rule on any new laws and interpret the Constitution, study it to determine what the Founding Fathers intended and whether a proposed law is within those guidelines, it's not black and white.

    3. The full text of that amendment states -
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
So it was not intended to enable everyone to walk around tooled up for their own use, it was introduced at a time when they feared another attack from British forces, to enable farmers etc to form a militia to protect their villages. The Supreme Court only has to interpret it that way to be able to declare that gun controls are not unconstitutional, and it is an out of date law intended in different circumstances.

According to a yank "criminal profiler" on the news this morning

It was down to the killer being a psychopath and the influx of computer games where the aim of the game is to use a gun to kill people.

    Jesus wept.
