Re: I thought it was a penalty at the time In this day and age nailed on penalty no two ways about it. McCourt can be a passenger all game for me if he produces a few glimpses where he may assist and score (As we have very few with the quality to do so). Barnsley fans need to wisen up to what we have in this player. On the other hand we can rely on players who work there nuts off but with no end product. i.e; Dagnall CANT WIN!!! He may of had one of his quieter games but; He still created 2 scoring opportunities out of nothing should have done better with the 1st one and swung his left and should of earnt us a penalty. For me he Starts every game possible it will be a long time till we see someone at Oakwell that can do what he can, ENJOY IT WELL IT LASTS!
Not according to this. http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/match-stats/287834/barnsley-v-doncaster-rovers
Nailed on penalty for me, these are given all the time, the only reason the ref didn't give it was because he'd already given us one penalty. Ref bottled it.
Haven`t seen the replay, but at the time I didn`t think it was a penalty, whilst others around me did but with not a lot of conviction I may add.
I jumped up, swore at the ref, stamped my feet and generally made a ***** of myself when the ref didn't point to the spot. I felt like an idiot at the time as nobody around seemed to agree but having seen the replay I think I was justified. Doesn't say much that nobody around me agreed though...most of them had spent the entire game complaining that McCourt 'wasn't good enough' was 'lazy' and should be subbed off. That was after about 50 mins, with the match at 0-0. Trouble is, he'll probably have worse games than that this season. I hate to think of their reaction when he does, I may have to move seats as it's already thrashing my head.
I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue. I'd have either been beaten up by now or on the end of all that abuse. McCourt is the best player I've seen for years and I wouldn't be able to listen to that without telling people to shut the **** up. I've had plenty of arguments over the years defending players I don't really rate when they're subject to abuse, so if it's a player I think is fantastic then I'd send in with both barrels. You'd think I'd have learnt by now having been spat at and threatened with a good kicking on numerous occasions, but I fear I'll always be a dumb fcuker with a big mouth.
It's a symptom of how sanitized and robotic football has become. We want autobots stomping about the pitch covering miles of turf, and 'putting a shift in'. Woe betide individuals and characters who do not conform.
Unfortunately for some strange reason something odd happens to usually well balanced individuals the minute the get through the turnstile, for 95 minutes they are just one brain cell above pond life
I wonder what people nowadays would have thought to Glavin, strolling about the place, stroking his ample gut. I'd put McCourt up there with the best we've ever had: Glavin, Banks (before he discovered beer and pies), Hirst, Geddis, Currie (first time), Redfearn, Hendrie, Ashley Ward, Hignett, Vaz Te. Maybe he's not as good as some of those, but he's getting there. All of them could be doing nowt, the team could be playing *****, but then in two second they'd win you the game. A thunderbolt from 30 yards or beat two players and it's in the back of the net or leave the defence for dead, skip round the keeper and roll it in to an empty. It's called class and McCourt's got it in spades.
I did exactly that on Saturday when my mate claimed we couldn't afford to have a player like McCourt in our team. Mind you, even when we've played well and won,he always finds something to complain about!
No he wasn't http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24782859 In fact it took that long for the ref to book someone I thought he'd left his cards at home.
Re: I thought it was a penalty at the time Dare I say it I felt sorry for a Donny player after that challenge. Duffy proper felt being clattered into metal unsafe advertising boards (can't believe we are allowed them or actually have them) and it would have stung more with how cold it was. Then he got barged over about two minutes later in the centre circle. Not a good afternoon for Mr Duffy.
No he didnt book him mate. It was a foul IMHO. Paddy went down easily but definitely a foul, he took his leg and didn't get the ball.
