Nobody has said that but what about choice for all? Can Muslim children not say no to a pork product on the menu? Does everybody else have to have their right to choice removed to appease one group? Its all wrong and it doesnt help anybody when these stories break. Paying taxes isn't exclusive to one section of the population.

No you didn't, it was obvious to me that is exactly what you were doing and I have no problem with that at all. I just think you picked the wrong issue this time.

There's more to pork than sausages mate. Anyway, giving them sausages once a week isn't a problem. They can be part of a very nutritious diet. We shouldn't be denying kids sausages which are fantastic things when they're made right. The problem with a lot of kids' diets is the crisps, sweets, chocolates and fizzy drinks they eat between meals not the sausages they have at dinner time. Not that sweets etc should be banned either, but they should be seen as treats to have once or twice a week, not summat you stuff down your gob every day. You end up appreciating and enjoying them much more that way too.

Radio Sheffield interviewed a number of Muslim parents at the affected schools and they all said that children should be given a choice of the type of meat i.e. pork, halal, non-halal.

Seems some people are inventing solutions to non-problems. Unless the Halal stuff is much cheaper.

I was impressed by the reaction of the Muslim parents to be fair - only the hard of thinking or professionally offended appeared to have a problem. It appeared to be that there were so few kids who actually wanted / were allowed to eat pork that it just makes sense to give everybody chicken!

The problem seems to have been caused once more by telling everybody that common sense has been applied!

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) Animal Welfare Survey undertaken in abattoirs across Great Britain during one week in September 2011 showed around 88 per cent of animals slaughtered by the Halal method were stunned before slaughter

The Halal slaughterhouses in Bradford that I've been to (through my job, and through my missus' sister owning a farm and cattle etc) use the stun guns before 'sticking' the animals (cutting their throats). It's very rare from what I'm told, that stunning isn't used in the UK by halal slaughterhouses.

One thing I do know though, is that the animals used for Halal meat are usually better treated than non Halal animals throughout their lives, and taste better in my opinion. And I'm not convinced having a bolt to the brain is any more decent than pure sticking anyway. It's slaughter. It's not going to be all pink and pretty is it?

Read the RSPCA guide to slaughter. Glad that's not my job. I'd be a veggie within minutes.

And, can I just add that this 'adjustment' made by Brinsworth school folk, wasn't made at the request of Muslims. In fact, the Muslim community have made it clear many times that they've only ever asked for Halal menus to be included alongside non Halal menus, so long as the foods are labelled and seperated correctly etc.

Around 600 pupils go to the two schools mentioned. Roughly 180 are Muslim children. Around 20%. So I don't see - personally - why this 'adjustment' was made. Why have they not just offered two menus? As Muslims and non Muslims would expect. Why? Probably due to money, as Dyson pointed out. Or, some kind of political ********.

It's causing a fuss though, isn't it? It riles up the extremists, stirs tension between religious groups. It's that that I find most sad about this episode. Kids hate school dinners anyway, don't they? I ******* did.

No offence, Dragon, but I'd stand more chance of losing an argument with a mute, than with you. Because not only are you ill educated on all manner of subjects (not that it stops you), you resort to calling folk names which pisses all over any slight points you might have.

If you seriously believe that just the non stunning of the animals is what deems Halal meat as 'Halal', you're wrong.
