Shows how desperate we have become trying to second guess the mental state of every team in the division in case we need them to bail us out
depends whether they finish in the bottom 3 if they do - 10 points next season if they dont - 10 points this season so they're down either way. thank god. what a fantastic day.
Southampton have EVERYTHING to play for remember... They're relegated either way. the question is - do they lose 10 points this season or next? if they have a strong finish and get out the bottom 3, they take the penalty this season and go down. if they give up hope then they go down AND have 10 points off next season. If I were them I'd be desperate to take the peantly this season to give them a chance of coming back up. Therefore - they've actually got 10 points to play for this season when the rest of us only have 6!

RE: from a southampton fan Let us win our last two games, and survive relegation.... ....and get relegated anyway. At least then we can start life in League One with no deduction. Pack the stadium, make a racket, the fate of next season rests on these two games. ------------------------------------------------------------------- go on southamton make sure u hammer forest!!!!!!!!!
What is the rule on 10-point penalty ? I thought there was something about part of the penalty being used to relegate a side that manages to stay up and the rest applied to the following season !
RE: by sounds of it looks like it will be a full 10 points this season or next depending on there positioning at the end of the season
RE: by sounds of it But weren't they talking about spreading the penalty across the two seasons ? If not, then a 10point penalty might only be a 1 point penalty !
RE: What is the rule on 10-point penalty ? If they finish above the relegation positions, the points are deducted this season. If they are relegated, they start next season minus 10 points
So if they manage to get 6 points this season (2 wins), then there's a good chance they'll finish outside the bottom 3 and be deducted 10 points. Taking them down to League 1 with no penalty next season. So 2 wins this season, can save them having to get 3 wins and a draw next season, just to be on 0 points. You've got to hope they're going for the 2 wins this season.
