A think he’s man for job tbh, whilst folk slate him, and yeah he does get stuff wrong sometimes, we’ve come on masses under him really and have had more recent success than any other manager. He comes across as a really well respected bloke and the type I think suits the England job
I don't buy into the Southgate hype, but then again, who else is there for that job? I'm not devoting much brain power to it though as I struggle to get into international football these days
All the whoo ha on here during the euros about playing two holding midfielders together. Well last night he had little choice but to play only one and we looked a lot worse for it. Southgate knows what he's doing.
Pickford didn't have a save to make last night. We only conceded from a dubious penalty. And Sterling had one of those games where his final pass failed around 90% of the time. You also can't legislate for Phil Foden going missing in the second half. But you can criticise Southgate for not doing something about that and it's hard to understand why Grealish was taken off. This was a Hungary team we demolished 3-0 away from home, who gave France, Portugal and Germany nightmares at the World Cup, and who caught us on a poor night where we just didn't get going. We've sailed through qualifying and only three months ago lost in the final of the Euros with the last kick of the game. The meltdown yesterday/this morning has been way over the top. We're in safe hands for now but I look forward to the baton being passed from Southgate to Potter within the next four years.
Gets my vote - he is good for the English game. A few tactical question marks over him but all things considered he deserves it and the players clearly buy in to him
Definite yes. He's not the most tactical of managers but his man management is outstanding, which is vitally important at international level.
What about Henderson? Anyway, we're not used to winning owt anyway, so Southgate'll certainly keep that boat afloat.
His tactics are effective, but dull as dishwater. Don’t see a better alternative at the moment though, so I’d say keep.
I didn't watch the game thankfully. I was out meeting my brother, a fellow ST holder. I don't think anyone better could be appointed at the moment & maybe last night was a game he could experiment with a more attacking approach, given we are set to qualify & had beaten them 4-0 away. I was more depressed about the behaviour of the Hungarian fans on reading the match reports & how FIFA have done nothing to stop this. Southgate has been strong in his support for the knee & his players, for that I admire him. He is & never was a master tactician. Surely the players let him down last night, with a few exceptions, i.e. Stones, Grealish & Pickford for a start.
Southgate is a good man manager, a good team spirit builder and a media diplomat. His tactics and formations are too negative. However, as others have said who's next up? At the moment he's not doing a lot wrong but I'm not a big fan. More tactically savvy and we'd have won the Euros.
He's got the best set of players for generations, yet still has his favourites, grealish best player on the park, yet taken off. Mount did nothing to warrant staying on the pitch. In the two most important games of the last 3 years, we've scored early and sat back, it's cost us both times. The England team has progressed, in spite of Southgate not because of him
******* hilarious. Look at the squads between 1998 and 2012ish and the succession of managers who got nowt out of them
Think he’s got England playing above their potential getting to a major final, why change? And for who????
