So there's no point in tactics or strategy for a game, no point whatsoever in a choice of manager, it's all down to the squad?
I used to think like that but at the end of the day you're at the mercy of the 11 on the pitch and circumstance.
how am I clutching at straws? I've just given you facts. France are the reigning world champions, we're not. they scored twice in open play to knock us out. by what metric are we a better team than France?
How much football do you watch? The 11 that nearly got promoted under Ismael would have failed miserably under Asbaghi or Schopp. Or are we down to Mick the liars level of 'success' and seeing nearly promoted as a failure so virtually equal to relegation?
Spot on. It's sh I t we've lost but like Brazil in 2002 we've lost to a better team. Crap ref but we got two penalties. No complaints from me. Not even a near miss.
You must know as a barnsley fan management have a huge impact bud. As post said above, look at the difference under Poya & Schopp than under Val. Obviously they can't directly affect anything on the pitch other than subs, but they play a huge part, especially in this day & age. Look at the improvement over the years in liverpool under Klopp
Just shed my tears and now I'm philosophical about it. Probably watch less football than most but it was a bloody good game. First game of 2019/20 season Barnsley 1-0 Fulham. It was a good game. Might be a bit hazy. Luke Thomas scored. What was I on about again?
Very true mate. Was going to say Howe for Newcastle but obviously he's spent a lot of money - but Man Utd have spent a billion since fergie and have been tosh. That squad Fergie won league with in his final season, looking back now, was really poor. Exceptional manager
Arsene Wenger or Mickel Arteta for me. Although I'd stick with Southgate. I wish he hadn't listened to his detractors. Only game we've been expansive we've lost.
The reason he listened to them was because we lose against big teams mate. Least we actually had a go this time. Different ref, Kane scores pen, their first gets disallowed & we get the pen first half, all changes. Can't just put it down to pressure Southgate was under for utilising his best talent.
On for manager of year. I hope he's true to his word and stays long enough to take us to Premier League. Just don't like it that he's commuting. However, makes no bones about the fact he's a multi millionaire through wise use of his money.
If we finish where we currently are, in the play offs, I'd be shocked if he doesn't win it mate, unless there's a 'smaller' (perhaps unfashionable is a better word) team i.e bristol rovers, exeter, etc who do extremely well. If people do their proper research and see just how bad we were in every aspect last year, losing mentality, no confidence in players or from fans, no money, all freebies joining, losing our whole attack basically in Woodrow,Morris,Victor, even Bassi & Quina, losing Helik who was brilliant for us, Styles leaving on loan etc etc. I'd be hard pressed to find a coach who's done as well as Duff will have done under those circumstances!
We have no hit triyghtonthecseni The only people that will balls up this season is the board . Duff is moulding a decent side. Hard to beat and grafting to the final whistle . Now as a fan of 40 years that is only what I demand from my team.
I reckon he's been aided with decent recruitment and having to change the system. Would we have eventually been sussed passing the ball to Luke Thomas and telling him to run? I'd love him fit and in the side but we were a one man team at the time. ( Complimentary post).
