He had a brilliant playing career. Well over a decade at the top level & represented his country plenty of times. Harsh that! Didn’t bottle anything against Croatia. They just dominated possession because they had far better midfielders. Still could’ve easily won had Kane squared it. Hardly Southgate’s fault that Kane doesn’t square that or that Saka & Rashford missed pens last summer or that Kane missed one last week. Hardly superstars, half of them aren’t even first choice at their clubs & two of them that do start play for mid table & relegation battlers.

Easier said than done. We’d got Dele Alli & Jesse Lingard in there. They’d also got Rakitic who was one of the best midfielders in the world at the time. I don’t think we were equipped enough to win a World Cup in 2018, especially not in midfield
