My mistake, thought the France game was a semi, still a decent record though and can't be many managers that have got England to a quarter, semi and a final.

    Not really,
I'm no great fan of Southgate's timid football but he is arguably the best manager we've ever had. Under him we have won 6 knock out games in 7 years... prior to that we only won 6 KO games between 1968 and 2016. He is the only manager to beat the Germans in a KO game since Ramsey in 1966, I think I read he's the only England manager to beat Italy twice in competitive games. He has the best qualifying record of anyone we've had, even Ramsey... we were hosts in 66 and holders in 1970, and failed to qualify in 74. It's difficult to compare the Euros as it was a completely different format... but tbf to Southgate he's qualified for every tournament and has more wins in tournaments than anyone else (tbf there were fewer teams in them in Ramsey's day)... he has a quarter...a semi and a final under his belt, I don't particularly like his style but his competition record takes some beating.

As if Newcastle would allow Howe to coach England. They’ve got aspirations of becoming the best club on the planet.

If Newcastle, as looks likely, go out of the CL bottom of their group and don't rapidly improve on their current 7th place in the PL, 6 points behind the top 4, then they'll soon jettison Howe in favour of a name.

It is mate, its dreadful, prior to Italy game last month, 7 wins against a side ranked in top 10, out of 27. 26% win rate. Considering some not great teams manage their way into that top 10 too, it looks even worse

I'm not sure about that. I don't think the expectation at Newcastle is there just yet. The trust is in Howe to keep building towards being a regular top 4 team and challenging for stuff.

It's so frustrating we know under Southgate with Henderson in midfield we've absolutely no hope of winning Euro 2024.

I'm 38 years old. It's sickening knowing I'll be at least 40 when we win sumat.

He's doing a cracking job. Quarters of the league cup too. I hope they win sumat although I'd like to see West Ham or Everton win it too.

Love it when someone different wins a trophy.

I can’t see that. He’s doing an outstanding job.

They’ve got as bad of an injury crisis as I’ve ever known a premier league team have & they’re still doing relatively well.

They might be bottom of their group but they’ve had the toughest group & were the bottom seeds. They were very close to getting something in both Dortmund games & probably would have if they’d got anything close to a first team squad available.

They went to Man Utd the other week with 2 reserve full backs at centre back & won 3-0. I didn’t watch much of Howe’s Bournemouth side but he’s been nothing short of brilliant at Newcastle.

I agree with this mate. Especially considering they've got a very hard group. I think he was going to be a buffer between rubbish and brilliant but genuinely I think they're really buying into him and the job he had done

Bournemouth under howe were great to watch, lovely attacking football but could barely defend for toffee. He's since gone to Spain and been Simeones understudy at Atletico - obviously he has much better defensive players at Newcastle than he did Bournemouth but id suggest its done him wonders.

They aren't "someone different," they're City in black and white stripes - once traditional club reduced to a cynical sportswashing entity. It's something to be lamented, not celebrated.

There’s been a couple of top defenders signed in Trippier & Botman but it’s what he’s done to the rest of them that I’ve found so impressive. He’s genuinely turned Fabian Schar into one of the best defenders on the planet he’s been that good. Dan Burn as well, he was back up at Brighton & I doubt anyone expected him to be first choice at Newcastle. Even Lascelles & Dummett when they’ve come in have looked far better than when they did when they were regulars 4-5 years ago.

The thing which winds me up with Southgate and England is the top club players even if out of form or not even playing for club are likely to be picked. One which is winding me up lately is why ward prose isn't getting selected.

Your figures looked at in actual competitive games are not telling the story..under Southgate we haven't played Argentina, Portugal or Brazil in Competitive games, of the 7 we have played it looks like this..

    In win/draw/loss terms W D L

    France 0 0 1

    Belgium 1 0 3

    Netherlands 0 0 1

    Spain 1 0 1

    Italy 2 2 1

    Croatia 2 1 1

    Germany 1 2 0

We've been gaffered by Belgium 3 times and won 1, Netherlands won our only game, France won our only game ( after Kane missed a pen)
We are 1 each with Spain, and in front of Italy, Croatia and Germany.

Now compare our squads with all those and tell me which side is the best mate - other than arguably France, none. Its a crap record.

You obviously dislike the guy enough to ignore the results in front of you. Don't quote an apparently shocking record when actual matches don't bear your theory out.
