I would imagine there will be some kind of action from Taylor Swift. Similar to Ariana Grande after Manchester.
Agree with everything mate, but there will be someone somewhere that says they need rehabilitation…..always happens
And that is far far too low and weak. The first offence should be prison not the second. At present someone could stroll into meadowhall with a machete and the sentencing guidelines state the punishment is to fall between a 3 month suspended sentence and 1 year imprisonment. Out in 6 months. Walk into a kid's dance class like he did yesterday and the sentencing guidelines are from 1 year suspended sentence to 2.5 years in prison. Out in 14 months. It's a ******* joke. A sentence of a maximum 6 months inside if you're particularly unlucky and 3 months suspended sentence if you're lucky is no deterrent whatsoever for someone who thinks they're hard walking the streets of Barnsley with a knife. It just isn't.
Its now gunner cost us 52k a yr to keep the foookin scumbag in relative comfort, while the families and loved ones come to terms with the loss, then theres the children who av to live with the horror forever, R,I,P, and cincere condolences to all involved.
Not sure his life will be relative comfort. Child killers will always be marked prisoners. His remaining life won’t be a cake walk. My young lad is a prison officer and lots of very nasty things go on inside and there is never a hurry to give it out.
Those poor girls and their teachers. Can't begin to imagine what their families are going through.Lets wait for the full facts to emerge before casting blame everywhere.
Reports of a large group of white males clashing with riot police and chanting English til I die outside a Mosque in Southport. I despair
I was responding to an argument about what is punishment. Is this not exactly the right time talk about that? Or should I wait until you’re ok with it?
I'm never going to apologise for saying that somebody who did this needs rehabilitation. They stabbed a whole bunch of people, including kids - of course they do! Should they be locked up so they can't do it again? Yes. Do they need urgent psychological help? Also yes. The big question is how we can make sure that there's somebody there to make sure that people can get their rehabilitation before disasters like this happen.
The police have confirmed that the name circulated on social media and repeated on here by you and others was false. You probably don't care though.
Not at all. You say your piece in the right time. It wasn't appropriate today & I told you so. I'm not a parent. That chance died 32 years ago. So have a little respect. We are Barnsley, show some fcking class?
I like Supertyke. He/she is a perfect sounding board, for everything that is wrong with an internet led media society. I am disgusted by this thread & ashamed that it's Barnsley. I know that most of you are good parents. My fatherhood, only lasted two days. It's an absolute disgrace that people are talking in such a selfish, callous manner, with dead & dying children & grieving parents & communities. Shame on you..
Hey I recently needed one of those Dbs checks (for my Sia license renewel/application), and I'm pleased to say I passed it 100%!!.
I fervently disagree with virtually everything he says on a regular basis but he's right. This isn't a remembrance thread, we're not signing a sympathy book. It's a thread about current affairs that quite naturally branched into ways to respond to a major incident. By all means do thoughts and prayers if you want for what good they do but don't restrict a discussion on the ways to actually prevent this sort of thing happening.
I think it's time for everyone to take a deep breath a moment to reflect everything in today's society seems to be about we want it and we want it now. This includes justice some kind revenge even but we can't have it,we live in good country that has a fair in the main justice system let it play out the perpetrator of this crime will feel the full weight of the law in the fullness of time.
It costs an average of £52k per prisoner per year to keep them locked up - including PO wages (2023 figures). Not sure where you get £1m from? https://www.statista.com/statistics/1202172/cost-per-prisoner-england-and-wales/
Most people have lost faith in the justice system. Whatever he gets wont really offer any solace to the families. It also wont stop incidents like this happening again and again.
