In their position what did anyone realistically expect? The sheer arrogance/incompetence of Conway is no longer there, the attempt to build bridges with the fans feels sincere and the transfer dealings reflect the financial distress the club is in. I think there are some really positive signs, redressing the damage caused by the last four years financial largesse will take time.
If the squad looks awful to you then we must be doing something right.. If anyone on here should ever carry Red Rain's mantle of the .. minority view.. it's you
None of our signings can be any good - all from lower leagues - if they had any potential they would have been picked up as youngsters by top premier clubs and given top class coaching - surely even you can see that
What to a side that finished in the Chanpinoship playoffs last season what a massive step down for them Id love Luton to go up next season they are another "likes of" team just like us only are doing rather better at the moment
On the contrary, the very sentiment of the motto means it isn't a destination or something to tick off the list; it is an ever-present philosophy to live by, to enforce, and to be held accountable to. So while the current owners are in post, spectemur agendo applies. I think Neerav understands this, and it is a bold and refreshing statement to make to fans. I understand there is much work to be done, a lot of it hasn't even begun, and ultimately results on the pitch will dictate how supporters feel, as is often the case. As it should be. My post highlights some of the good that has been done so far, subtle changes and effort by the club to engage and right some wrongs. In my opinion this shouldn't go unnoticed, particularly as the last 12 months was so poor in terms of fan engagement and the strength of feeling towards the board was at an all-time low. Credit where it's due, and more work to be done.
I agree that all these things are great. I have expectations in three main areas and watching closely to hope we see proactive progress. 1. game day experience. Parking, access and events. Quality of food and service. But more importantly a real effort to develop a fans place. The club to invest in a social club / area / location. May need creative thinking and outside investment but doable. 2. Development of infrastructure. Plans for west stand. Facility improvements not just minimum maintenance. I fear we get to a point of crisis where the maintenance costs and insurance get so high we get locked into only deterioration. 3. Competitive squad. I agree with the new coach that consolidating our position in Championship is first objective. We have to get out of division and have a more focussed and sustainable plan in L1 first off. Attract the young talent and sell on later is ok. But this model has to ensure it drives on field competitiveness through the process. Balanced with experience and academy development. I like these latest initiatives which are aimed at reconnecting with the fans. Something that is equally important and the 4th topic i would choose.
It is also the motto of the London Borough of Lambeth. Jr. Didcot Red 2 got married in Lambeth Town Hall 4 years ago. I noticed that their motto was shared with Barnsley.
Long long way to go. As far as I'm concerned the thoughtless/desperate gimmick of giving people with more readily available cash more chances to win the season ticket refunds than those less well off and those who needed to use the credit options (that were then not provided for several weeks) is just among the most personally upsetting things I've experienced from the club. BFC - having the poor subsidising the less poor/rich and effectively operating a differential pricing structure within the same pricing period. Just does not sit with any principles of equity. It saddens me that fellow supporters on here see/saw that as a good initiative rather than one that discriminated between fans of differential means. After 40 odd years of pumping money into the club too. I've just about reconciled myself with this being one of the final acts of the Conway/Lee era but the constant running through it is Khaled. A lack of substantial progress in the playing strength over the next three weeks and he really has to be in the firing line imho. Very uninspiring from a man paid so much relative to the turnover of the company he is CEO of too.
Season has yet to start. Signings still to be made. Players still to be sold. We have to cut our cloth accordingly. New manager new coach hungry new players signed under the radar on frees. Some overreactions are being made.
Yeah possibly, but I can understand why fans react like this. I hope there are some players to come in and I trust Duff & Paterson.
