No one apart from me seems to remember these and they were my favourite, especially the strawberry and cream ones.
McCowans toffee bars. Wrapped in a sort of waxy paper with a picture of a Highland cow on the front. Proper toffee!
I grew up on the "Barebones" and round the back of the Wood Street Hotel was a workshop where Claytons made boiled sweets. We called it the 'Bit Shop' because for a halfpenny you could get a 'bag of bits'. This consisted of broken bits of rock, humbugs, acid drops and general sweepings up. They also included one of those 'orrible sugar fish that nobody liked.
Got some free samples of those when we went to watch Barnsley play a pre season friendly against Stenhousemuir years ago. The McCowans toffee factory was next door to the Ochilview Park ground and one of the workers gave us some freebies.
