In 1987, I was returning on the back road from Bawtry to my home in Dunsville near Doncaster at around
9.30pm. I was the only car on the road, when suddenly in my rear view mirror, I was aware of some very
bright headlights and quickly judged that whatever type of vehicle was behind me, was too wide to pass me on
what was a very narrow carriageway.

Suddenly, the vehicle moved to the right to overtake me and I braced myself waiting for the impact. To my
surprise, a large white Cadillac just " ghosted" past me towards a humped back bridge ahead. When I reached
the bridge, the car had gone. There were no roads or gates that it could have turned in to, so it was a complete
mystery as to what I had just witnessed.

It's only when I got to the Flarepath pub in the village and told my mates what I'd seen, I learned of the legend
of " Billy Lindholme". What is now Hatfield Prison, was during the 1939-45 War an RAF base which also housed
Polish and United States airmen. To this day, I can't explain what or who I saw, but I do know I definitely saw it.
Some time later one of the lads claimed to have seen the same thing, which I must admit, made me feel a bit
a bit better over what proved to be a very eerie experience.

I work at Finningley in one of the last old hangars. My office is the old officer's mess. Folk have told me it's haunted by a Polish airman. Not seen owt, but the smells one of my colleagues leaves in trap 3 can be described as inhuman and scary.

Yeah but what I left out of the original post was when the hands stopped spinning the time showing was 4:15am was when actually and all the other clocks in the area where showing the correct time.... 1:30am
It was like time had jumped forward so she'd survived the hour the doctors had given her
Like I said was all very weird and surreal

Don't let @JamDrop know or she'll find another rational explanation and ruin it all over again. ;)

As a fan of The Twilight Zone and all such things, I'm enjoying reading all these strange tales.

Are you sure it wasn't because you'd come from the pub that you both experienced this!!??

My flat mate is convinced the house is haunted. But I’ve lived here 300 years and never noticed anything unusual.

I've a theory you can interact with and even touch them until you realise they're dead.

Really bizarre when I think back. My other half believes in all that stuff, she asked me if I believed in it and if I'd encountered anything. Totally forgot about it until she asked me a few years back. Don't think I ever had any contact with the him, and can remember talking about how crap the beer was in Hollywood bowl at centertainment on way to the tram and that it was stupidly expensive. Then vaguely us both laughing at one of group getting booted out of a boozer. I spoke to him again in nightclub that was under ponds forge. I can't recall seeing him with a pint in his hand at any time.
Must be a Barnsley thing, we see dead dee dars. That's why their grounds always look full on away days?!

When I was a teenager, a mate told me that he once took a shortcut through the local cemetery after a boozy night out.

Partway through he heard a tapping noise. He couldn't decide which direction it was coming from, but something about it made him feel nervous. No matter which direction he moved, the tapping got louder, until he was frozen with fear. Eventually he pulled himself together and slowly carried on his way, the tapping noise getting steadily louder and louder.

As he turned a corner, he came across an old man knelt beside a fresh grave, working on the tombstone with a hammer and chisel. Somewhat relieved, my mate greeted the old man and then asked him why he was out working so late. The man carried on chipping away for a bit, then paused and said, "They've spelt my name wrong."

At that point, my mate said, he ran like hell, all the way home. He always told the tale so straight faced, that we never knew if he was taking the mick. Either way, it was a tale I never tired of hearing.

Last summer we got a flat in a hotel in Scarborough, the hotel was an old sanatorium back in the late 1800s /early 1900s,we were allowed in around 4,staying for long weekend, went into our bedroom,it felt very eerie and cold, put it down to being in roof area at very top of hotel, probably staff or servents area back in the day, went in main room put tv on it was totally white no picture and distorted sound, thought charming, will report this in morning, decided to go out down the front ,anyway bedtime came and it was so cold in ours even though it was fairly warm night ,anyway I managed to get to sleep only to be woken up by wife really distressed, she had been awake for a few hours unable to move or talk, with what felt like a heavy weight on top of her ,she was sure a ghost had done this ,managed to calm her down and eventually we must have fallen asleep because I woke up and it was light about 7ish,went to make cup of tea and thought without thinking I would bob telly on for breakfast telly,it was working ok,perfect in fact, went back to bedroom, the cold eerie feeling had gone ,was ok rest of weekend too, can’t believe how brave wife was,if it had happened to me ,we be going home next day

Another from me,a workmate from Ackworth got dropped off from a night out on main road and took a short cut down this lane over a little bridge and stream,he said it was pitch black and he started to hear the sound of hooves and what sounded like a carriage, all of a sudden there was what he described as an awful sound of horses in distress and a loud crash then followed by children screaming in distress,he just ran and was in tears when he got home and told his wife, some days later researching local history back in 1800s 2 girls had died in that spot after their carriage got out of control and tipped in the water on that bridge,he said the sound of the children screaming was horrific,as you can imagine he doesn’t take that short cut anymore

I’m loving this thread because I’ve had a number of experiences of things that I consider to be supernatural. A few years ago my daughter was living near Burnley and that meant we visited quite often, we live near Cambridge now.
On one occasion we booked into the Rosehill House Hotel. A Victorian building furnished in a strongly gothic manner. There was a large stuffed bear on the first landing and some really weird doll like figures on the first floor. We booked into room 10 and it was a good sized double room.
I woke up in the middle of the night and found myself to be completely paralysed. I was fully awake and my eyes could move but nothing else. A voice in my head told me not to panic and it would soon go away. I had an impression that something was going on behind me, but I could not move to see it.
After a while it just went away. My wife was asleep and experienced nothing at all.
On checking out I told the girl at the desk that the hotel was haunted and she had a very cagey look about her and asked me whether I’d experienced anything. I told her what happened and whilst she didn’t comment at all she didn’t deny it.
I had no knowledge of any reputation that the place had, however I googled it afterwards to find that my suspicions were confirmed, I am not the only one to have experience strange happenings in the hotel. If you don’t believe me, google it.

That heavy feeling on top of her is sleep paralysis, I get it quite a lot and it is quite scary.

I get it after reading ghost stories or watching scary films.

He ran a store on the high street and as there was a sale starting on Monday he decided to get the staff to put the overhead sale banners up when they closed on Saturday to save time 1st thing Monday, locked up,went home with around a dozen banners hung with wire clips all in place...….came in Monday to find all clips still hanging from the ceiling but all the banners in one neat pile in the middle of the floor,...………. he had the only door key..

Had a similar one to that in the previous house which was an old barn conversation. Never really found out how old, but I suspect late 18th early 19th century.
Had a new kitchen fitted with a glass fronted cabinet for glasses. There were lights in the top of the cabinet. Got up one morning to find the light fittings from the cabinet in the middle of the kitchen floor. The cabinet was still closed. Just put them back and didn’t have the problem again.
We were never uncomfortable in the house and if there was a spirit in there it left us mainly alone.

I like to start early and usually head to my office around 4am. My route used to take me down Yarm High Street and towards the A66 for Boro.

Just before Preston Park and about opposite Eaglescliffe train station turn-off is an old grand looking building on the right, quite ornate and well to do, maybe an old hotel, care home or something of the like.

Anyway, one morning 2 or 3 years ago I was sailing by lost in my thoughts for the day ahead when I glanced right and saw a young girl in an old Victorian night dress standing at an illuminated full length upstairs window looking down at me. There were no others lights on.

I was past within a second or 2 but the hairs on the back of my neck took some time to stand down and are currently on end again thinking about it as they are every time I pass.

Never believed in ghosts and tell myself I still don’t but deep down and being honest with myself cannot explain what I saw or why it made me react as it did/still does.

I used to live in Stocksbridge, they had a few ghost stories. Children dancing round a pylon and a ghostly monk which scared to death 2 of SYP's finest.
It was on Strange but True with Michael Aspel in the 90s. It's on YouTube, would add link if I had a clue how to do it.
