Is this a new rule brought in by Sheffield United, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday? Rochdale finished above us on gates of 2,000. Not disagreeing with your other points re perspective though.
Defence looks ok, but lacks experience. However, Holgate and Smith have had a season at this level behind them. Nyatanga off the back of a good season and carries experience. Then we have Mawson who looks and sounds a class act at this level. Backed up by Roberts, Cowgill and Williams. Seems a bit light but I'm ok to start season with this pool for back 4 and Davies and Turnbull fighting out a place in goal. We are though short in midfield and attack. Although we can play Marley either attack or midfield and Phenix is back in training we still need more. Last season we started season very light and took an age to get people up to match fitness and numbers in. Plenty of time though.
We were fifth highest in league one for attendances last season but we finished eleventh. I'm not being Sheffieldesque by saying we are one of the bigger teams in this league.
I'd say we're an owner, chief exec and a board of directors short of being a successful club. Just my opinion. Probs get promoted this year. From the 3rd division. Again Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exactly. No need to panic. Still feel we need at the very least another left-back, a winger and two strikers by the start of the season, then ideally another central midfielder, striker and winger after that. If we have 4 more players at least by the start of the season I think we'll have a pretty good squad, albeit not a very deep squad. But this can be added to after the start of the season because signing 3 players then isn't going to affect the 'gelling' of the group. More the the point, last season, after signing Hourihane on the 25th June, we didn't actually sign another player until when we signed Bailey on 22nd July. We subsequently signed 7 more players before the start of the season 3 weeks later. Nearly half a squad signed in such a short space of time, hence the slow start. While our squad isn't that strong at the moment, we don't need to rush signings like we did last year in my opinion.
Davies, Bree Mawson, nyatanga, holgate, smith , hourihane ,scowen Watkins, winnall pheonix is not a bad starting 11 and with players in reserve already here if we add 5 more players to that who are as good or better then I think we could be in for a decent season
Nope, just that generally the higher your gates the money you have at your disposal to spend on transfers. Rochdale have lower gates and don't have as much money to spend on players as us so are arguably punching above their weight. Sheffield United have higher gates and more money than us to spend on players. I could understand the moaning if we were supporting Sheffield United (god forbid).
Financially, larger crowds help. We definitely have an advantage there. Although I don't see us particularly utilizing that thus far this summer with the three signings we've made, and us getting shut of our three highest earners.. Our future success depends greatly on the board/owner. Unfortunately. Fingers crossed LJ is the miraculous manager we require, because if we're treading water again next January he'll be the latest to blame for others' shortcomings.
