Scored a goal though in only his second game. I'm sure if he really was as slow as is being made out he wouldn't still be at the academy, let alone being the standout striker who's making his first team debut. Let's just wait and see rather than writing him off so quickly.
He has every chance to improve as a footballer, but he’s not going to get any quicker and generally if you haven’t got the pace you need to be big. Most of the players coming out of the academy appear to be L2 level, so the fact we’ve retained him doesn’t mean much tbh.
Liddell wasn’t quick but he was quicker then Marsh seems, played out wide quite a bit or at least ran the channels enough times to prove he had decent pace.
And Hendrie had both, he’d slowed down by the time he came to us but by then he’d played a bazillion games and scored a shed load of goals to be able to change his game thanks to vast experience, eye for goal and dribbling skills. And even for us he really wasn’t that slow.
I think fans are caught up on pace and physicality, they are very rare. Technique, speed of thought and desire can be better traits. Though what we can afford from here on in is a very different discussion.
