Regarding birth rate. There was a study that said less younger people were having sex due to social media. This ties in with what @Hooky feller says about social interaction. Less people are actually physically talking to each other due to social awkwardness and anxiety. There's part of me thinks this might be in part due to society.
Couldn't agree more. I did a German O-Level at school in the 70s, then in 1993 I started learning it again at Barnsley college. Courses at Sheffield Uni followed, then I met a student teacher from Germany who wanted to improve her English and offered German tuition in return. I then met my wife, who spoke no English at the time, although she does now. We speak German at home and on holiday in Germany and Austria. We watch German TV. The only time we speak English is when we're out with friends in the UK. I've been speaking German for over 30 years, I can converse on any topic, at any level, I know the grammar and I can recognise different accents and dialects. But am I fluent? Nope. I still have to look up some words, I still misunderstand my wife sometimes (who doesn’t?), and I still get stuck trying to explain something on occasions. Unless you learn a language as a baby, you'll never be fluent and you'll never lose your "foreign" accent.
Greens will win my constituency in Leeds, Headingley, if this continues. Thankfully Reform and the Tories are nowhere. Greens won my local council seat.
A society that she created of me, me, me. even though she said in a nutshell. No such thing. "I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand ‘I have a problem, it is the Government’s job to cope with it!’ or ‘I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!’ ‘I am homeless, the Government must house me!’ and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society? There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first." Given the fact some are thrown on the streets. And unable to get help. And imo, more than ever, at the last sentence. look more to themselves first and last. I still think the vast majority do care. But if it appears to affect them. Lots say Fekk it. Eg Housing shortage v Green space.
Apropos of nothing, it is the most glorious afternoon here on the Costa del Poggy. G + T's (Lady Kaht's bucket-sized version) being taken on the terrace, and 70's/80's hits playing on Spotify. It is glorious to be alive in Sir Keir's Britain!
I've been accused of that in the past. For example when the Ukraine war started I said that I put me and my family first. I also reiterated that on another thread when I gave my reasons for voting Conservative. I was accused of having an alright Jack attitude. Fail to see your point.
My point being she created a society of first and last. I would guess all of us would look to ourselves first. I added that content To my post thanks. The alright Jack term is prevalent to most tories. Especially those at the top. I'm not going to say i find it palletable to vote tory mate. As I despise most of what they stand for. But I would rather have someone tell me rather than hide. Say one thing and do another. I learnt that through being a union rep. You at least never hid the fact. And that allows proper debate.
It's a poor state of affairs that you have to vote for a party that's not offering you the sort of society you'd rather live in because you dislike them less than the party you want to keep out of power. So we have a Labour Party that is cutting disability benefits, have removed the winter fuel allowance and kept the two child limit but for those social democrats among us the Labour record in government has to be ignored but we have to vote for them because they're not Reform or the Tories. That's hostage politics.
Immigration is out of control thanks to the last lot whoever won last year would have to do something about it. I'd ask what those who aren't happy would do? We should welcome those who can offer economic benefits and skills that we require but can't continue at the level we are now it's just not sustainable. The care sector is my biggest worry though as it's already struggling so there need to be some big changes going forwards.
Anyone who still thinks that Starmer's Labour is a progressive party should wake up and smell the coffee. Time and time again Starmer and his cronies adopt stances that do not represent historical Labour values and yet there are still some willing to cut him some slack. Starmer has no moral compass at all. Labour is bereft of ideas and is imitating, indeed going beyond, what the Tories and Reform say and do. I'm another loony - I've already decided I'm not voting Labour at any local or general election in the next 5 years. I'm voting for progressive policies. The green party. The Labour Party is a disgrace.
Starmer’s house is on fire. Police investigating. Arson suspected. People might not like his politics or what he’s doing in power but there’s no excuse for this. People could be hurt or killed. I wouldn’t advocate for anyone’s house to be burned down in any circumstance. I really hope there is an innocent explanation.
I do agree with your point about poaching staff but I can't see these people who aren't working suddenly filling the positions.
Sorry but I didn't understand a word of what you said. Any chance you could write it in English. Bloody foreigners. Looks like I'm going to have to shout at you to get you to understand.
