Of course there's tofts in TARN.......me and mr x for starters !!! There's a lot to be said about Barnsley Council and the low expectations of many of the folk living in Barnsley. Lidl at the entrance to Barnsley Town Centre is an absolute disgrace and shows how weak our council really is. But then again...........the councilors are mostly ex-miners who aint got 2 brain cells to rub together (and dunt start, cos I'm an ex-miner mi sen).
This old chestnut again. Can someone PLEASE tell me what they expect the Council could do abouut Lidl? Privately owned site sold to another supermarket chain. Planning permission would have been hard to turn down based on what was there before and in any case these firms can tie a council up in knots and cost a fortune.
It's derived from people looking down their nose. Mostly the same people who use Asda etc cos its 'cheap'. It's a modern designed building. It has created a number of new jobs in both savers and lidl it's self and will always be busy due to its location. It's a vast improvement on the eyesore that was there prior. There seems to be numerous parties who keep taking digs at the council for not doing enough to improve the aesthetics of Barnsley yet have failed to notice the number of changes and current changes that are on going. The biggest issue for Barnsley at the moment is attracting big name companies to set up shop in Barnsley as traditionally it's a less than affluent market town with two cities within say 10 mile of the town centre. Making Barnsley more cosmopolitan wouldn't work either as barnsleys been done to death with cafes and coffee shops. The focus needs to be placed on what Barnsley has to offer that's different from its neighbours. It has a meat and fish market that leaves many other towns to shame. The open and indoor markets have the potential to expand and improve. People still come miles to visit both of those. Start working with smaller chains with the lure of low rates/ leases and the future could be very bright indeed.
Be reyt once the new town centre begins. H&M, Debenhams, Nando's & Odeon already signed up. Looking forward to not having to trek to Meadowhall for these places. The smackheads will be pushed to the outskirts of the town and hopefully shot.
If it happens. ... It'll be interesting. Focus on the things that make us unique... Get a selling point. Get the brands and the big boys in and we will have a town that's a shining light. Debenhams...h&m ..... Nandos..... Jobs jobs jobs.
