Any idea on numbers sold? I disagreed with Matthew on Paddy. I disagree with him on a lot of things. But I don't disagree with him being a journalist and keeping us in the loop with regards to possible takeovers. I didn't want you to apologise anyway, I just hoped you'd understand that if you give it, you have to take it similarly? Anyway, we move on.
Totally. A lot of takeover/signings end up not coming off, but that doesn't mean the journalist/paper/station should be crucified for reporting the story.
I agree, DQ, which is why you won't find any personal criticism in my original thread. But I did question the substance of Matthew's story, which, as it turns out has come all from one side without any verification. It was then put out as "a Chronicle exclusive". A pretty poor piece of journalism, in my view.
Seems to me that the club have confirmed Matthew's story to an extent. The club have had an enquiry those making the enquiry were presumably hoping that this would lead to a quick takeover. It would have been irresponsible not to publish any journo worth his salt would have done so.
Has this been posted? Sorry if I've missed it. Matthew Murray @matthewmurray87 The Chronicle tried to speak to Jed McCrory today but he refused - said he's signed a Non Disclosure Agreement re BFC. Don't know if that adds anything or not. Probably not, but just for the sake of completion.
Its the Editors decision to print after scrutinising journalists story, source and evidence so ts editors call imo
Things I've understood about all this takeover talk (or lack of takeover as it actually turns out) 1) I understand Matt got his info from an agent who had previously been asked to actively market the club (on a commission basis). I believe the same guy was the source of the last story about the club being sold. 2) Their have been 3 enquiries so far this year for the club (not sure if that's since Jan or in the past year) 3) All enquiries are fielded and qualified by Maurice Watkin's law firm ( and have have been for a number of years) 4) Mr Cryne has extremely strict guidelines to determine if a consortium are qualified to take over Barnsley football club. He doesn't want to be the person that sells the foobtall cub to an owner that destroys it. None have passed this test to date. 5) Often these enquiries also fail when asked to show that they have the funds to take the club forward. 6) Its thought that Mr Cryne is less inclined to sell now than in previous years although if someone came forward who passed his criteria and genuinely had the money and determination to take the club to the next level then Mr Cryne would step aside. 7) Stories about the club being sold in the next couple of days aren't helpful in the transfer window when trying to attract the quality of player the club are now looking for. 8) The club demonstrated their improved communications with the clear statement they put out.
Murray is a joke journalist, and he should have written his letter of resignation earlier in the week. What is the Chronicle's position bearing in mind their treatment of Mr. lodge?
Your number 6) means in reality that Cryne no longer has a potentially life wrecking court case to contend with and thus his health (financial and physical) seems to have massively improved..... ....which I think has been by far the most influential factor in all of this. That kind of trouble can devastate a man. Maybe he feels a lot better now. And more inclined to indulge........
No clue on numbers sold. Been told by one of the lads at work its looking like it will be called off. Has there been any news regarding this?
Ive no idea about his financial health but I understand his physical health is bad and that is from someone who is in touch with him regularly.
The Radio Sheffield lot and Alan Biggs say it's going ahead, no problem. But I'm not convinced. Supposed to be a 12 hour deluge of rain from tomorrow evening. We'll see I suppose.
He unfollowed me last week on twitter, and isn't my facebook friend anymore either. Clearly reads the BBS. Which proves he did rob the match report posted by Jay.
Asked a Wednesday fan at work today who's been going for over 30 years and he says he can't remember a game ever being called off for anything other than heavy snow and those floods in 2007 when practically all of South Yorkshire was flooded so I don't think there's that much to worry about...although a bloke down my street has been building a rather large thing that looks like a boat...he's called Noel or Noah or summat.
