My friend who works at Barnsley hospital it resembled NYE on Friday night. If lockdown is lifted they won't be able to cope. I'm listening to those on the front line I also think this govt would do anything it could to avoid lockdown. It has deemed it necessary, no one likes it but can we please just get on with it.
But can't you see that the number of admissions for covid-19 would be drastically reduced if the elderly were properly isolated? Its a simple fact that every elderly person currently contracting covid-19 is doing so because they haven't properly isolated. That isn't blaming them because they haven't been given any support to do so but it's a fact. If an 80 year old is properly isolated they can't catch covid-19. If they do catch it they haven't been properly isolated.
Well I care. He's the leader of our country, and he should be capable of speaking live at a time of national crisis. If he's not, what's he doing in number 10? Could it be that he's not trusted? Or worse, he doesn't trust himself? Or maybe he's just too drunk most of the time?
There are also 11000 of them overseas at this moment in time. We are stretched beyond belief, when I joined the RAF in 1989 there were 110,000 personnel, today there are roughly 29,000. The Navy and RAF combined would fit into Wembley and still have spare seats, so it is fair to say we are a much reduced military, but the demands are always increasing.
Remember this is the government you've been criticising. What makes you think that after sleepwalking into a lockdown, making mistake after mistake, incompetently ordering PPE from shysters and generally failing with every aspect they must have looked into that one alternative in such depth and with accuracy? Because I highly doubt they have.
I do understand that and don't take my post as a criticism of the armed forces at all because it wasn't. It was a criticism of the government
Trouble is, a lot of those 80 year olds have lived thru troubled times and have a stoic, nothings gonna stop us, you've just got to carry on haven't u, it's not gonna beat us, kind of attitude. The majority of those insisting on sticking to their old routine of going shopping everyday and traipsing round all the shops to pick up the bargains are the elderly. Because..... " if u stay in, it's won hasn't it" ......yes seriously, I've heard it many times. No I don't have data to back the above up, it's just my experience of working in a supermarket on a daily basis.
ST, I never took it that way. We have been called to provide assistance and we are and will always do so as we are effectively the servants of the government and whilst it is an old cliche, the military have always had a can do attitude and will always get the job done with our limited resources. Believe me, I am also surprised we have not been called on to provide more personnel, but I think it’s a fine balance between continuing to provide support to COVID and also provide continued security for the UK.
I completely agree with them doing medical deliveries, etc. (if they are available, I don't know what they are doing) but definitely not getting them into care homes. Without proper training it would be dangerous and extremely upsetting to the residents. Just before lockdown started I completed training (just theory) on working with people who have challenging behaviours (this can include those with autism, dementia, learning difficulties etc. and was focused on those in care homes and special schools) and it was eye opening just how much planning and thought goes into every aspect of their life.
