RE: Again..pure speculation and estimates

And what exactly is the point if we can't fill it as it is??? I know that before the land deal etc., we were the biggest land owning club in the country.

the problem is that i very much doubt that half of it would

if it is worth £4million (your higher figure) then the council would take £2m and Cryne £2m. I dont thin we would ever see the council money again because of the public reaction when they spent money on oakwell last time round so that leaves just £2m.

the remaining £2m is Patrick Crynes to do with as he pleases. If he does choose to give it all to barnsley (doubtful has we already ow him a lot of money which was a loan and not a gift according to BFC accounts) then there is no way it could pay for a new stand. And then there is the problem that we will have nowhere to house away fans (brings in money every week) and 1/3 of the home carpark gone.

    More to the point

whats the use of an empty car park for 99.92% of the year? assuming its full for 3 hours for every home game which it is not.

say if we expand capacity by 4000 and it gets full once every 2 years at 20 quid a chuck then its 80,000.

The car parking capacity is reduced by 250 which assuming fully used (which it isnt) and not re-sited and at 3 quid a chuck gives 750 x 23 games = 17,250 per season.

So we would only have to fill the stand once every 4 years to make a profit.

Remember the car park DOES NOT belong to the football club in any case!

Oakwell NEVER gets full as it is

there was around 4,000 empty seats when we played sheffield wednesday last season and that was the biggest attendance I can remember for a long time.

On the other hand the carpark is used every home game and could be utilised a lot more if the Barnsley FC management put some thought into it.

    not true

If that was the case then it would mean there was only around 500 people in the west stand which clearly wasnt the case.

    The whole issue is complex

The council are joint landlords of the stadium and as such would see the improvements to the stadium as an investment. I suspect if they got 50% of the profit back to the council coffers then they would be happy.

There is also a possibility that the developement could open up further council land for developement not in joint ownership.

More houses = more council tax.

Better club facilities beneficial for borough with incorporation of community facilities in potential stand.

Grove street school is up for demolition.

Access to the dearne valley & link road twixt ponte road and wakefield road is also an issue. Council have been after this for a while.

Have a look at google earth there are plenty of developement oportunities.

I cannot for the life of me see any significant pifalls only oportunities

A return to good championship level football would fill the ground every 4/5 years or so if only with a decent cup draw.

The west stand is a death trap and could have license recinded at any time. Where would that leave a championship side?

As an Oakwell resident I can only see benefits from the possible developements in terms of the club, the town and the community.

You talk as if such a proposal would come at the expense of the playing side which of course is nonsense.

    it isnt nonsense

A pretty looking west stand will not increase attendance at all because there are already about 16,000 empty seats in oakwell.

We WILL lose money because the away carpark will be gone and around a third of the home carpark will also be gone. This is money that goes to the club, money that is spent on little things like players wages. It might only be enough to pay for say one players wages but it could be the difference between a centre back and not having a centre back and when we are so short of assets and ways to make money it is barmy for people to be behind an idea that will take a away one of the only rgular sources of income that we have available.
