So do you put Kent or Hammill marking a 6 foot plus player instead then?

Who's saying anything about Kent or Hammill. Just you are.

If that what options we have then the team balance isn't right.

Or you could do what simon dave did.

Leave Payne up. Kent in the middle and even Hammill up.

Ie leave 3 up they will leave 4 defenders back too.

More than one way to skin a cat

Well someone has to do the marking and you're saying it shouldn't be Payne.

I'm saying he was signed as a striker. Not a defender. And that is all I am getting at.

Nothing else. Wouldn't it be great if we had 11 players who could do every possible position and job.

We don't. And he's a striker and that's his bread and butter.

Well usually the best headers of the ball after your center backs are the strikers so they normally come back and defend, if they don't then your expecting the likes of Hammil and Kent to do it.

strangely though the last few managers at BFC seem to bring everyone back and don't leave anyone up field, which will probably cost us more goals or put us under more pressure than than poor defending :)

Yes and if you read my original post I praise him as a striker.

Hecky wants him to be able to help defend corners though and if you watch him he's really poor at it.

There's nothing wrong with suggesting he needs to improve on that.

Yes. You did. I've just read it again and you have. I've been side tracked in thinking that you are purely getting at his defensive game.

You have praised his attacking side which is what I was maintaining.

I need to go to bed :)

Well it's the first time I've seen him and I thought he looked like he has a good first touch and has got strength and pace. Early days but in the time given to him he looks like a prospect to me....

I agree about Payne but if hes on the half way line instead of cocking up in his own box he would have a couple of defenders for company so I think the chap is suggesting we use him to take players out of the equation in that way.

here we go again eh Chris lol.
i said the other night that i think this payne could be a real find for us, but obviously as a dangerman up front, as a striker.
everyman has a job to do i know at set pieces but i wont knock him when it comes to defending corners and free kicks, thats not what hes been brought in for.

Think he looked alright yesterday, has plenty of potential, will only get better and offers us something different to the rest of our forward players.

I'm very happy to forget Tuesday after yesterday's performance. So, it seems was Hecky.

I think he looks a good prospect. You'd certainly struggle to tell which new striker came from Dover and which came from Walsall for a big fee. I'd be tempted to start him ahead of Bradshaw.

Completely disagree with this. Our team isn't blessed with height, and when you have players like Hammill and Kent who are no good in the air you need the other, bigger players to step up.

Every single striker over 6 foot and any professional league helps defends corners - I don't see why Payne should be any different. He needs to lean and I can't understand Hecky being annoyed about it.

He reminds me of Chris O'Grady, from the little I've seen of him he's more threatening than Bradshaw
