Pillar of the community isn't he? Surprised he didn't leave Oakwell via a fire escape.

    Again, why???
Evans was wrongly convicted and exonerated in a court of law as far as I understand it.

Barton has long term form for violence, betting fraud and all round ass wipe attitude.

For me Evans was given a few boos from those around me today because he was a blunt

I mean regardless of illegality, his actions were pretty morally dubious

To follow on from previous entries, the best starting point re assault charges are outlined below, sorry it isnt a link, you can cut and paste it. The thing about assault offences is that in practice the CPS will round them down so what should be an abh will be most likely a common assault and so on. Secondly the severity of sentence is often reflective on the degree of injury rather than what was necessarily intended (or the degree of recklessness which can also feature) eg. you could aim to knock someone's teeth out and just split their lip (which should be assault occasioning ABH but would be most likely charged as common assault) or you could mean to split someone's lip but knock their teeth out (which would be abh, possible sec 20 GBH depending on which teeth and the victim) To headbutt or punch someone in the face is clearly an assault, so which charge will depend on injury. To end up being much beyond a common assault the victim would need to have stitches or a chipped tooth (both ABH) or a broken cheekbone, knocked out front teeth, broken nose or prolonged period of unconsciousness with complications (causing sec 20 GBH). Grabbing someone by the hair and ramming their face into a wall shows an intent and sec 20 could become sec 18 (wounding with intent) if the injury crosses the sec 20 threshold. You also take victims as you find them so assaulting someone with PTSD could cause a relapse and move the offence up a notch

Good to see SY Police straight onto the case by running past his car before being stopped by (presumably) one of our Club Officials. Not quite sure why he wouldn’t have been interviewed this evening rather than voluntarily!! being interviewed ‘sometime’ next week.
Regardless of how this plays out in terms of a criminal action I think there’s a real onus on the FTFC Board. They really should be speaking to Barton/ Coaching Staff/ players who witnessed the event and if they find, from those interviews, that Barton has committed the assault, then he should be summarily dismissed. To hide behind ‘it’s Police matter’ would be cowardice of the highest order.

The more you reflect on this incident the more incredible it seems. A manager allegedly assaulting another manager, I can't think of it happening before in England?

Joey Barton has a very long rap sheet and this once again would add to the notion that he's a ticking time-bomb. I read his autobiography which was quite good actually and despite not making any excuses for his behaviour, I saw him in a different light having had the various incidents framed within context (his side of the story only of course). But then this story breaks and it's simply disgraceful that a manager of a football club could act this way. It certainly suggests he cannot control himself, should the reports be accurate of course.

One would hope he will get treated just as any fan would get treated now though. If I went up to a player or manager and smacked them I doubt I'd be interviewed at some point next week, I'd be in a cell, in court Monday morning and probably doing 6 months porridge by Tuesday (like the swift justice handed out to the Birmingham fan who shoved Grealish). A lifetime ban would be handed out. Now I'm not advocating draconian punishments for anybody, but it does make you think.

I had to smile at the video above, with the female police officer running straight passed Barton's car then being shouted back by an official. All a little comedic really.

    Excellent post.

Same here - I’ve listened to his autobiography on Audible, and it’s read by him. It gives you a different side to the story, and he accepts he’s got issues. Many stories only reported half the facts.

However, today’s alleged antics are not defendable. Whilst tempers can be high, this is pretty much unheard of. Even having Keane & Neville V Viera & Keown - the most that culminated in was handbags and throwing slices of pizza in the tunnel. There’s a line to cross - and today it was.

He should be treated as any normal member of the public attending a football match in this circumstance. As for Fleetwood - they probably need to suspend him pending further investigation at the very least.

He should have been arrested and interviewed under caution to get his account before he’d had time to concoct it.
Then interviewed again and the balance of the evidence subsequently gathered put to him which, in my experience, often exposes the suspect’s initial account to be economical with the truth/utterly false/ patent bollo*ks.

The comments on Twitter about this just show that there are many people following football with half the IQ of a tadpole. Sorry - that's insulting tadpoles.
