But the fact is they dont. Go on any board and fans say the same. And where they do like Palace and Saha then they hardly play brilliantly I was surprised Moore left but that's his choice.
This season is all about staying up. Do that and this squad with few tweaks and a years Champ experience will improve a lot. Just got to work hard and learn quickly to ensure we do stay up. Fulham, Charlton and Brum are 3 teams who are not better than us. A draw would have been about right tonight if not for errors. Win at home and draw away is good practice. Only Wednesday in my eyes turned us over.
I was ignoring the cup I’m also hoping we can convince Radlinger to sign for longer - but we know the back story so it might be difficult.
He only made his debut off the bench on Saturday & started for the first time last night as he was still with us when the season started. Wigan fans are praising him on Twitter but it’s irrelevant what he does at Wigan it’s how important he was to us & not just in terms of goals. We haven’t got another striker who can shield a ball & get us up that pitch, everything relies on the press & counter. Teams are happy to leave us with possession in our own half because we don’t seem able to build our own attacks.
Kieffer made his debut when he came on in the early stages of the preston wigan game, he came off the bench Saturday and started last night.
We might have had a sizeable advantage over Accrington and Scunthorpe but we also had to get more points than Sunderland and Portsmouth. Whilst there were plenty of teams it should have been easy to beat the top 7 were a much higher quality than most seasons in L1. In a standard year Donny and Peterborough could have expected automatic promotion with the season and quality they had. There was nothing ‘easy’ about our promotion season. We still had to do the work.
Our wage bill coming down from the Championship would have dwarfed Portsmouth we should have statistical finished 2nd.
It's easy to say we had a big budget last season he doesn't deserve that much credit, but for me we were a relegated side low on confidence, many players were loaned out at other clubs the season before or out of favour with hecky and morais, stendel had to implement his own style of play on the team, we had kieffer moore and woodrow out for large parts of the season and sold one of our best players in January and replaced him with jordan green. We weakened our squad while pompey, sunderland ect strengthened. Let's not forget it took sheffield united 6 years to get out of league 1 with alot bigger budget than we had last season with some big name managers wilson,Adkins, clough ect
I disagree with many of your points in this thread. In particular your assertion that it was Heckingbottom’s side and anyone or anything should have got it promoted. There was only Adam Davies and Liam Lindsay of the players used regularly that Heckingbottom picked. Cavare, Pinillos, Pinnock, Dougall, McGeehan, Mowatt, Brown, Thiam, Moore, Woodrow, Williams x2 were the regulars last season. To not give Stendel the credit for last season is utterly ridiculous. I however disagree with the main point of this thread which is suggesting he threw on Halme to prove a point. We were 2-0 down and it looked a last throw of the dice to me. A tactic used a hundred times by our managers of the past.
Totally agree. Browny will be like a new signing if he can bring last season's form into the Championship. Also, when Dougall had his first injury lay off, last season, McGeehan, the supposed 'box to box' attacking midfielder, got his opportunity in the team, in Dougall's role, and wasn't very good at it. Yet when Dougall returned, Stendel accommodated them both which allowed Cam to go forward more and showed us what he is all about. McGeehan has had a shocking start to this season, but a defensive midfielder he is not.
Let down in what way. He's been able to sign 13 new players of his choice and the club have got decent money for those who wanted to leave.
You may think it isn’t the minimum job requirement to get a team with one of the top 2 wage budgets promoted. A team that regularly had subs on the bench that cost note than the entire opposition team. I disagree. It’s all opinions. Though statistics back my argument up. The only signing on your list is Dougall. I never mentioned Heckingbottom as HC wasn’t the previous Head Coach. I give DS credit for getting us playing well and achieving our goal of promotion. Staying up is a much harder job if he manages that he should get a statue next to Dickie Birds.
Had his centre backs sold when we didn’t have to, and his top scorer. Haven’t signed any experience as he said he would have liked. He’s starting from scratch in a very tough league, with kids. I think the fact that he hasn’t signed a contract tells us everything we need to know
You’re being deliberately playful with facts I’m afraid. As I listed previously it was a very new look regular eleven last season. Lots of players that Heckingbottom didn’t pick were finally given extended opportunities. I choose to credit Stendel massively for what was achieved last season. You refer to us having subs worth more than the other team but I can’t get my head round that one. Although there were quite a few teams built on free transfers so stands to reason. Not sure we were the big spending big hitters you’re alluding to though. I expect Stendel and the squad to finish mid table. Statue unnecessary.
