That particular away game goes down as my worst performance as a Barnsley supporter. We played away at Swindow with ten men behind the ball, and there was even an occasion where Ben Pearson was sprinting forward to get involved in the play on a break and stopped at the 60 yard line as if he wasn't allowed to go any further. The result and performance was worse because I'd watch England beat Wales in Cardiff the night before in the Six Nations. He definitely wasn't the same character or manager that we had first time. Jim O'Brien said as much in the Live from Redfearn's Bar interview. Super passive.
Wishing now I’d not put that bracketed sentence in my earlier post it’s deflecting from the initial question . Do you want/ mind having Daniel back? Edit Stendel that is , not Wilson. Think I know the answer to that one
Take it you never went to donny away when we lost one nil dont think we strung 3 passes together nor a shot on goal and scowen had just been signed but was on the bench.
Look at the squad we had in August 2019 Look at the squad we have now. Stendel has shown what he can do with a strong set of players
I wouldn't want Stendel back no. Problem is I don't know who I'd expect to be in the running, or who I'd want, when you take Brexit in to consideration. But that was the same with Stendel, Struber and Val so got to keep the faith.
Tough choice. 1. Euro-pool of managers possibly thinner on the ground, plus availability issues. 2. Young British manager - short supply and hardly setting the world on fire coaching-wise 3. Internal, or links to the club. Big gamble and one that looks an unlikely route. (Hassell, Hammill, Murray, Tongue ........) 4. A dinosaur. God forbid. Allardyce, Pulis Hopefully we can trust them again, and hopefully it will be someone who can take us forward. Needs to be backed as Val was.
On brexit would Stendel benefit at all from working in Scotland and England for about 2 years? I suppose not unfortunately
Absolutely not, he struggled to adapt to this league, very stubborn with his tactics, which saw us on the end of a few good drubbings. Found his level
He showed us what he could do with the best squad in division one & we all loved it ,but he is not proven at Championship level & the current squad although talented are light years off being the best squad in this division & it would be very hard for him to try & repeat his previous success.
Daniel? Loved him during that one season in L1. However, in my opinion, he doesn't have the tactical nouse for the Championship.
Again look closely at that squad. No physicality in attack. Bahre, thomas, schmidt and chaplin all powder puff and Woodrows not mr muscle. No defensive spine. All 19-21 year olds with zero experience at this level. Guys from the leagues in Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Finland and U23s all thrown in together in one summer. Cavare as first choice RB. That says it all. Sorry but the squad at that point was f**ked. Totally f**ked.
I agree we punched above our weight with val just because the style of play was so hard for the opposition to play against.
Never went Swindon I lost interest in the away games just because of the tactics and style when he was sacked in February his last away win was November. Must have been bad because donny away is the worst I've ever seen us perform could have still been playing now and wouldn't have scored.
Thats where the coaches qualities come to the fore, look at when Val took over , no wins & struggling in the bottom 3 , changed the style to suit the players & had to work with what he had got until january , regarding the squad you mention , Stendel was in the hot seat whilst those players were recruited & would have had his imput , not exactly a glowing indictment for him
Who and when was the last time we appointed someone with proven championship experience? The last four appointments hadn’t even managed in England let alone be of proven experience. Daniel would be the most experienced appointment since Wilson second time around.
You have answered the question yourself ," most experienced since Wilson second time around" , now that went well didn"t it, it was shocking , it comprised of the most turgid boring football you could ever wish not to watch , lets not repeat the mistake with Stendel , lets remember him for the good times & not risk tarnishing his good name with a risky return to the Championship , a level he clearly struggled with before .
Val had Helik and Sollbaeur in defense with a far more polished Andersen and two quality wing backs. A settled group with 30-50 games in the championship. The tools Stendel had to work with were not at the same level at all.
Hang on a mo, you were having a pop at Stendel for NOT being proven at championship level and now you’re saying he’s too experienced. I’m not sure quite what you want. Would someone like say Wilder be too experienced for you, leaving aside that he would be ex United?
