Stockport 78/79. I can picture him now. Selwin stood on the dugout beckoning the Stockport fans for a feight. ( on his own as usual) Copper grabbed him by scruff ot neck. And marched him across the middle of the pitch to where Barnsley fans were situated. Can’t remember whether they chucked him in with our lot or carried on straight outside.
Yes I was there too that night, as you say huge support from the Reds, however after the match it got a bit ugly and there occurred lots of fisticuffs, me and a mate got chased all the way to the coaches by neanderthal Stockport fans, some of whom were so intelligent they could almost speak Not English, you understand....just...speak Oh the fun I had in those days...
I was at that game, my only visit to Edgely Park. It was Boxing Day 2001 and was our first away win of the season. Stockpot had ex Barnsley trainee Luke Beckett playing for them, he become a prolific goal scorer in the lower divisions. It was freezing and there was a snow storm during the game. Barnsley went onto be relegated that season, our only other away win was the last game of the season at Wimbledon when we was already relegated. So sad that Stockport ended up going all the way to conference north, it good to see they are on their way back with a chance of playoffs this year to get back into the football league.
All this stuff kicking off, more exiting than the game. Only violence I remember was the sending off incident!
I couldnt say for sure .. It was one of the few I missed that season. I liked Pugh. He was a cracking little player
Yep my only visit but.... given I’m by surname Palmer, what a buzz to hear reds fans chant Palmer, Palmer... when he scored. Still dream abart it tbh. Given we have a fantastic midfielder with the same name it should become more routine. Well it will when we get back to Oakwell.
Went with my mate Stewie for a game on Boxing day around early 2000's.Abolutely freezing cold as we tried to shelter under the scoreboard which was only about a foot deep. I'm fairly sure it was goal-less and a ruddy awful game. Stewie never turned the heated car seat off till we got back to Hoyland. Great times !!!
