Purely because he doesn't play for one of the biggest clubs or a top London club. Stones, sterling, ox and Kane with his current form would be first on team sheet for me. England managers never have any bottle.
Hodgson isn't the man to take England forward as a nation because he doesn't play younger players. What annoys me is that we have players that come into the international fold yet can't get in their own clubs line ups consistently. Examples; Smalling Jones Milner Walcott Townsend
I think that's a little bit harsh. He wasn't afraid to throw Barkley and Sterling into the squad for the last World Cup. I'm sort of with you on Smalling and Jones as I'm not a huge fan but both do play fairly consistently under Van Gaal. I'd always have Milner in the squad because he can play in so many positions. Walcott is a top player when fit and Hodgson does have a soft spot for Townsend after he played so well for him a couple of years back. I suspect the reason why Stones is in the u21's is because of the clamour to copy the 'German model' and give young players tournament experience prior to being regular full internationals. Hence why Kane is likely to go to the next u21 tournament. We all know Stones will eventually we a regular in the senior squad eventually which is probably why Roy took him with the squad to Brazil. For whatever reason (and I don't watch Everton enough to comment) perhaps he doesn't think he's ready just yet.
I dont understand peoples perceptions that Roy is brave by throwing these youngsters in and giving them a chance. The likes of Barkley and Sterling were sensational last season and IMO both should have been starting every game at the world cup. Id argue he wasnt brave enough because he wasnt willing to start them. Along with John Stones who didnt go to the finals. Also, I cant get my head around just what he see's in Andros Townsend? I didn't say he was brave, I was responding to the post who suggested he doesn't play young players. Clearly that isn't true. Not just for England either, ask some Fulham and West Brom fans. Also, he did start Sterling. He played in every World Cup game and the pre tournament games didn't he? I don't disagree with not picking Barkley either as I think he's a lot to learn. I probably wouldn't go for Townsend either but there's not exactly a glut of attacking wide players in the queue and clearly sterling, Welbeck, Walcott etc is ahead of him. Perhaps I'm blinkered but I think he's an excellent manager doing ok with an ordinary squad. Clearly the World Cup was disappointing but he's not the first England manager to fail in a tournament and he won't be the last. I think by the looks of it he'll take us to the next tournament and hand over to Gary Neville after that and that'll do for me.
