Most newer electric and hybrids don't have a clutch or gear stick. I've got 2 buttons - R and D - with a P button off to the side. Hand brakes are pretty essential too - especially if you park anywhere near a hill. Don't like the automatic hand brakes though that work perfectly until the one time you forget to check and the car had randomly turned it off for you...
I've found it varies a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some I've really liked (Kia actually has a very good one) where as soon as you put the slightest pressure the other way it'll stop trying and some it feels like you just have no control over the car.
Another vote for lane assist. It’s great to be pushed back into the path of a kids bike that you’ve swerved to avoid.
My car is pretty basic. It doesn't even have remote locking, I have to use the key every time I get in. There's not much in terms of gadgets, but it has one button on the dashboard that baffles me. It has an image of a car with two lines behind it that look like wavy skid lines and the word OFF printed underneath. I looked it up in the manual once and it's something to do with ABS, but the description made no sense and I can't imagine why I'd want to press the button. I'd give it a try, but I'd probably end up in a ditch!
I don’t really understand this argument tbf. Lane assist is designed to only work above 40 mph and is meant for motorway driving, not urban driving. I’d be far more worried about a kids bike being on a motorway. Turn off lane assist when driving in urban areas.
My wife drives a Zafira and every time she uses the 7 seat option and then goes back to the 5 seat it has to be reset
I think you’d be far better off with a push iron tbh. Not one of those new fangled ones with a battery though. Death machines.
My Civic has start/stop, it's a late 2015 model and I've recently had to put its third new battery on....quite expensive battery too, the only good thing about it is that a message comes up saying "start stop not available" when it's finally knackered the battery. . I've got SS permanently switched off now. A friend has a Hometune/roadside assistance business, he told me the core of his business is fixing cars with faulty sensors.
Agreed, lane assist on our Jeep turns itself off automatically after a few minutes driving on non-motorway type roads.
Agree about lane keep assist. Mine is not too intrusive but I still disable it as its intervention is not welcome. Fortunately, there is a button on the steering wheel to disable it, I don't have to prod around in various sub menus to find it. Apparently, it needs to be there and it needs to default to being on each time you start the car for the car to get top marks in the NCAP tests. I forsee a day coming soon when NCAP dictate that there must be no way to turn it off. That would put me off a new car at that point. Anyway, what about best feature? My vote - heated steering wheel. Now that the cold weather is here, its luverly. Don't know how I ever managed without it Either that, or the ability to pre heat the car while having my breakfast.
My Dacia Logon is a 2016 model. Due to low immissions it is £20 per year road tax. It's dinted to ****, the radio is crap, but no one wants to break into it's large boot in a car park. I love it. Nick Cave, or Radio 5 play constantly. Now't else.
