The whole point of tax is funding the things society needs. If you can't afford to feed your kids you shouldn't have had them in the first place, not go begging to the taxpayer.

Obviously society needs to ensure its kids receive a proper meal whilst at school. We can't afford Trident and many in our society don't want it but we fund it. This Govt subsidises non-green energy projects which in turn will provide private profiteers with their their spoils. Probably non-British and therefore going abroad. Anyway, could go on and on of course. My point is something like providing free school meals can motivate opposition of opinion more than many more controvertial tax- funded policies of this horrible govt. Tories, absolutely hate them.

I know, Govt creating employment, so that the resulting wages can be spent in the local economy. Economics madness, we're doomed.

No, parents need to do that. I am not responsible for looking after your kids.

What about the parents who dont give a fek.more and more children are going under the radar because of the welfare cuts in local govt and fekless parents or mentally ill or substance abuse parents who are not getting the help because the nasty party want their backers to benefit from low/non taxes.
Are we saying to these children because your parents are abandoning you so are we.
Some schools were only able to acquire facilities because of the policy to feed all and the few that were suffering were having go do without

It all seems pretty to me especially when it's all in the name of making the rich super rich.

This policy isn't about giving fekless parents more money its about making sure kids have a meal that their parents are not providing for whatever reason. Some kids will underdevelop if this is withdrawn as has been proved.

100%. The kids in my school are tiny. It's really, really obvious when we get new kids as they look like they are 2 years above ours. I've lost count of the amount of times a new kid has been shown around and we've thought that they must be year 6 kids and they end up being year 3/4.

Think your missing the 'whilst at schoolpoint as well. I am not responsible for funding ant-green projects and ensuring massive profits for energy suppliers, but tax funds subsidies for these.

Not at all but responsibility has to start with parents. I find myself agreeing with the point made by super Tyke which i think is very sensible. And the whole point of this post is that the free school meals was applied to all but the vast majority of parents aren't feckless scroats who think it is somebody else's job to bring their kids up. As I've said there has to be a safety net for those who need help and protection but we don't need something that is given to everybody regardless of need.

If we had that attitude we would save billions I'm not responsible for starving kids in Africa so why do I our government send money, could go on and think of loads. Like another poster said all kids should have a school dinner free taken from a cut in child benifit well at least primary school kids. This government are just hitting the poor/working class all time.

    ?why not ?
Schools, hospitals, are all things coming out of taxpayers money as is the bankers bailout, universal po!icy of school meals along with education is not too much for a civilised country.
This is nothing to do with fekless parents being able to squander its about looking out for needy children.
I knew kids from my school who only got a meal at school .turned out to be great parents in fact better than some who were from normal fa ily backgrounds.
This policy was brought in on hard evidence and consequences it wasn't something Cleggy dreamed up its for aa reason.
