The money doesn’t appear to be trickling down the divisions like it normally can. Feels like the biggest transfers have been to those in need of cash to offset losses from relegation (us and Posh). Normally the big money moves by West Ham/Brentford for players at Swansea/Hull would find a home further down the pyramid. At the minute it’s probably covering some holes from the COVID lockdowns and then being used on foreign imports or loans from the league above.
we're a skint 3rd tier football club. obviously we need bodies in, but I'm personally tempering my expectations in terms of who they're gonna be. I think everyone was expecting both styles and helik to go, to free up some wages. I reckon the best chance we have of getting 'top quality' players in now, is probably loans.
what makes you say that? we have a funding gap of around £7m, which we've possibly recouped about half of. where do you think the money is coming from?
Also the change of an effective playing style costing us relegation and £7m revenue loss then employing and paying off 2 useless headcoaches. Also the money wasted on an injury prone striker who had hardly played in the previous 7 seasons. It's what you get with people who know sod all about football making the decisions
Even without relegation the financial position was going to be tough. That was abundantly clear both from the last filed accounts and the transfer dealings in the last window. The club was desperate for reinforcements but there was no net expenditure to strengthen the squad. Unless you have knowledge of a substantial cash injection to the club that has not been publicised I think the financial position is pretty bleak.
We are obviously running on nearly empty & I think a lot of this years budget might have already gone on recruiting coaching staff as opposed to transfer fees for players , Duff & Patterson will not have come cheap with paying out compensation to Cheltenham plus paying off our failed head coaches of last season, hiring & firing in football does not come cheap .
Surprise, surprise. If we seriously wanted him then you just meet the £300k release clause. Salford aren’t exactly skint with their backers so were never going to accept less.
Birmingham were bidding regardless of our rumoured interest yesterday. As a League One club with a wage ceiling it appears we never stood a chance in reality. Maybe our bid was worth more overall and that was our way of trying to gazump a bigger club? Always a different way to look at things we have zero knowledge on.
Surprise surprise , the lad chooses to go to the championship with no doubt a salary to match , it doesn"t matter two hoots about meeting the asking price when the ultimate decision will be in the hands of the player , its a no brainer for him .
I have found another link which says that we are in talks with him, so it looks as though both us and Birmingham City have met his release fee. The task is not hopeless as I see it. We need to convince him that he is more wanted and will get more game-time with us than with Birmingham. I would think we have just over twenty-four hours to convince him. I have not seen anywhere that he is talking to Birmingham yet, just that they have agreed a fee. Another possibility would be Tyreece Simpson on loan. Huddersfield Town seem to be on the brink of completing a £500k deal with Ipswich Town and are then going to loan him out again straight away. If we want a physical target man/striker, he would fit the bill and we should get talking to Huddersfield pronto. I still wonder where George Hirst will end up, but, with no sign of sales of Helik, or Styles, it is looking like loan deals, unless we can get a low-cost transfer like Thomas-Asante. Hey ho! The next twenty-four plus hour will reveal all, but I hope that we land at least one of Thomas-Asante, Simpson, or Hirst. Two would be dreamland. I am sure that the management team and board will be doing all they can to support the manager. COYR.
