They hd accepted relegation when he came so staying up would have been a massive bonus. He has also said l1 wont be a problem for him so i fully expect him to be her come august even if we finish rock bottom.
The more publicly critical he is of our performances, the worse we seem to be doing. Team spirit seems to be taking a battering. I don't think he'll keep the loyalty of the players in the same way Stendel did.
Really does seem to go for the digging them out in public. Which may not be the best approach for young lads who are out of their depth. That said on the flip side they are paid professionals and he has to think of his own reputation. I thought his comment a few weeks back about the effect a coach can have on a game in the championship was interesting. I'm paraphrasing here but I think it was something like a coach can have more effect on the game in Austria than here. Something about how the quality of the players is better here so its not so easy to just win a game through a tactical switch. Wonder if he is starting to think he took on a lot more difficult challenge then he bargained for. Hence the criticism of the players and thinly veiled digs at recruitment.
think this is a bit disingenuous the Herr Struber. He's brought in 2 players from his old club, which given the situation is understandable. We are in crisis and he needed players who understood his system. Hasn't got the time/matches left to coach people into a new role.
You can’t be serious. The fundamental problem is off the field (With Paul and Jay) rather than on it. I don’t give a toss whether the Coach and players are English or not. What matters is they can play. Incidentally take away the non English coaches/players who we’ve had in our history and we’d be playing Darfield Rd Rangers on Cudeth Rec.
Good shout. IMO he would do a fine job for us, just not sure he would be willing to work for Chien and Conway.
But the foreign imports clearly can’t play at this level can they eh? And the players he’s brought in along with radlinger, Anderson, Schmidt will be worth fook all when they’re sold, yeah, great business that, ffs
Maybe you’re right on whether the players he’s brought in are good enough, though we should probably give them more than two games before rushing to judgement. My point was that one bad experience over one season out of 130 isn’t a reason to move to an ‘English Only’ players policy. That’s as daft as a policy where you don’t sign anyone over the age of 24, or don’t use the loan market.
But my point being this is where this owners master plan has profited historically, like Cryne before them, from English players. Not only have we massively deviated to get too many cheaper players in all at once but they are also mainly continental which Barnsley historically has done very badly at when they come to sell them on.
Struber should not be sacked if we're relegated. Not if the reason for sacking him is relegation. Relegation was sealed in the summer when Davies left and he was replaced by two inferior keepers. One who is still learning and the other who has never been Championship standard. It was sealed when we sold both centre halves and replaced them with young lads with little experience of senior football never mind championship level. It was sealed when we sold our centre forward and replaced him with Schmidt. It was sealed when we chose quantity over quality. Struber's (and Stendel's) contribution to our relegation is minimal. Having said all that I have serious concerns over Struber's managerial performance. He came here with a preferred style of play and formation and has stuck rigidly to that in every game. There has been no assessment of how the qualities the players he has available can best be utilised. They have been shoe horned into a system from which Struber will not deviate, rather than playing in a way that gets the best from what he's got. All managers have a preferred way of playing, but it may take them a couple of years trading in the transfer market before they have a squad capable of playing that way. You may argue that managers don't have the luxury of that sort of time frame these days, but the one sure way of making that true is playing a style of football that doesn't get the best out of the players at your disposal. I'd also question his judgement of talent. Have the three players he's brought in improved us? Has sending McGeehan out on loan improved us? Do the players he's chosen to completely disregard really have nothing to add to the team? Are the players he continues to select every week no matter how poorly they play and how many mistakes they make deserve their place in the side? Struber should not be sacked for relegating us. But if he's not a good manager he should. I don't know yet, but I'm far from convinced. Brown's crossing and Chaplin's finishing papered over a lot of cracks and the rest of the division have now grown wise to the one trick we had.
All fair points. My original post was more asking if people thi k he will be here or not? I agree if he is sacked because we go down it would be very harsh. I just have a feeling he will be.
I think you could be right. The owners could use him as a scapegoat to try and deflect attention from themselves. 'Look, we've sacked him. He was rubbish wasn't he. Now we're going out to hire the guy who really was our first choice right from the very beginning, honest'
To be honest I don't think he's as good as he talks, very one dimensional ,playing football in a system that doesn't suit the players or the league we're in. He's brought in players who are clearly not good enough. Seems out of his depth just like most of the people running the club. They lack an understanding of UK football, it is different to European football and it's demands are different. The European model needs to be dropped and a clear strategy created. At 58years, I'm bored and losing interest and sick of the unnecessary complications and incompetence.
Our recruitment team are all English and I suppose there job is to scout players along with the coach of any nationality.I don't think they've been "rabbit holed" into buying cheap foreign youth players.Don't forget this recruitment team Identified Pinnock and Lyndsey for example both were cheap but not foreign.
I think, without any insight into the full workings, that there is mileage in the spreadsheet approach and you're right in that the successful signings, and bigger revenue earners, are english/british ala Mawson, Roberts, Hourihane, Pinnock, Lindsay and arguably Woodrow, Mowatt & Chaplin. Where I think it's falling down is that I imagine the statistics might, for example, show that someone like Andersen wins x% of headers, makes x blocks, interceptions, passes, runs etc. etc. The bit where it seems to be failing is that these statistics are being gathered against equivalent standard players so where they may look impressive on a spreadsheet it's apparent that the leagues we've signed players from are not comparable with the Championship. And perhaps that's one of the naive elements of all of this
bonkers if so he’s made a **** load of errors so far including freezing out some perfectly decent players when we don’t have that luxury and failing to teach our defenders how to defend set pieces
We managed to get him to leave his homeland, leave behind his wife and kids, leave top flight football where he's from and leave coaching a Europa League team to come to a foreign country and fight a battle to keep the team from falling in to the third tier. A million for his services (salary, compo to former employer, bringing in Rose etc) doesn't sound far fetched.
