I think the recruitment was good in the summer. I just think there were areas that weren't covered properly such as centre midfield with Dougall being injured and Kieffer Moore wasn't replaced properly due to the adopted system. I think Stendel has to shoulder some blame too. He tried a new system in pre-season and early doors that didn't need a target man. This was naive as Mowatt couldn't do it all on his own and Mcgeehan was woefully out of form.
Maybe good for the long term but not what we needed straight away and losing the defensive spine meant we were very slow off the blocks. But I think things are settling down now and if we can manage to avoid injuries and suspensions hopefully can battle right till the end.
I think the players are buying into Struber's system. I think it's the quality of player we bring in that's the key and agree with Struber and admire his confidence this can only bode well for the future. I'd be disappointed if Woodrow left but wouldn't want us turning down bids in excess of £7 million. I just hope if anyone does leave they're properly replaced.
Don't mind a little bit of it. Three little maids from school are we.... Oh maybe I'm going down the wrong track there, dangerous approach.
Both will stay unless someone meets our value of the players then we will sell them. This is fairly common at nearly all clubs.
You can go either way on this. Paul Futcher, Craig Hignet, John Hendrie, Darren Moore, Adam Hammill, for a kick off. It's about having one or two older heads, not a team full of has beens. I'm willing to trust Struber, as his head is on the line really with who is brought in & surely he laid his cards out on the players he wants. We've done OK in recent games, but frailties in defence remain & we have looked weaker without Cauley, despite Simoes looking good versus Derby. He was average versus Crewe, but so were nearly all the team. I think we struggle with our high intensity play in back to back matches, having few players we can bring in. Given half a dozen have in my mind been rightly let go by Struber. Pinillos, Cavare, Green, McGeehan, Bahre, Thiam, etc not good enough. I'm not sure about Andersen / Diaby either. One might be OK with an experienced head. Together they are a disaster waiting to happen, as the season has showed. The Crewe game was no different, if they had taken their chances that would have been a defeat, but we scraped through. It looked better with Thomas's break away goal with the last kick, but was in no way convincing. In the end, I'll support the manager & the club & the acid test will be if we stay up. If we go down, the owners will have had two relegations in 3 years, which would not be good. I'm keeping the faith at the moment that whoever is brought in is good enough at this level.
in which case, i apologise. Forgive me, I thought you were about to lead the charge with another unnecessary rant at the club.
Do you think its settling down or the fact that the new manager made changes to tactics, the team and formations that were glaring obvious to most of us.
Only just seen this, you a bit cranky? I meant I’m not sure what type of midfielder he is - I worded it badly to be fair
Hearing that Struber will not be going back to Wolfsburg for any other former players. Some were mentioning striker Shon Weissman but that can now be ruled out.
Some of the problems are still.there and have been all season. I think Struber had the benefit of a fit squad when he started so could get his preferred players to gel in his diamond formation. He's doing well, long may it continue A win against Huddersfield will show we've got the tenacity to beat the bottom teams, which we have to do to avoid relegation. I've avoided saying must win games all season but I really think Saturday is one. Look at Middlesborough though, they ve stuck with Woodgate and are climbing, sticking to the same style of football. It is hard to call, I wouldn't categorically say if we still had DS that we would have been relegated or indeed that we'd stay up. I'm just fervently hoping that somehow we stay up and I cant wait to get to the point when it's in our own hands again.
Lot of sense there but the pedant in me cant resist pointing out that its in our own hands now. If we finish the season on 81 points I can guarantee we wont go down. Realistically if we can get another 30 points from our last 20 matches we will be fine so at the moment it is on our own hands
Fair enough, I just will feel better psychologically once we re out the bottom 3 and I think it would be a big boost for the players. On my poll I said mid March but i really hope its sooner.
Id said January but results conspired against us a bit at New Year. I wont relax a bit until we catch the pack though 3 from 4 isnt good odds if we can do something like Middlesborough and get a few teams between us and the drop that would feel much better 4 straight wins like they just had would go a long way to getting there
I don't remember anyone wanting Woodrow to play in midfield and us to line up in a diamond formation. There are a few reasons for our improvement. Players with no experience of this division now have some. After trying all the new players, those that have made the step up are being selected, those that haven't are not. Not something you can do until you give them the chance. Struber's tactics have worked well. But they're his, not ours. No one on here suggested anything like the personnel and formation he's gone with.
