Although I did not think that we played the diamond, I did not think it was 3-5-2 either. Following a tide of feeling otherwise on Saturday evening and Sunday, I reviewed my thoughts, and it was still not like what I understand to be 3-5-2. The diamond formation can resemble 3-5-2, because it is designed for the player at the defensive point of the diamond to drop into the back line on occasion whilst a centre back covers a threat out wide. However, on Saturday, I saw no player at the defensive point of the diamond, so I could not understand way Struber would refer to his back three. It just did not make any sense to me. Then I thought. The game had been won by then. There was nothing to be gained by praising the players, unless it was as an investment in the next match. An exercise in creating doubts in the mind of the Hull coach. I will say no more, but I expect changes on Wednesday.
