Rumours that he's not happy with New York Red Bulls transfers and the squad he's got to work with, sound familiar?! NY Red Bulls brought in 10 new players during their off season and they were beaten 1-2 at home in their first game of the season yesterday by Kansas City. Also found this article on him. Some bull **** in there and a mention from the writer that Struber found himself frustrated by the limits of Cauley Woodrow! Anyhow, sounds like there is real pressure on him to deliver this season as they are saying its a decent squad he's got to work with. https://www.onceametro.com/2021/4/1...e-best-squad-gerhard-struber-has-ever-coached
I think Struber isn't the only one frustrated by the limits of Cauley Woodrow. He's my favourite player but he needs to stop snatching at efforts, chill out, get between the posts and relax in front of goal. The chances will come.
Got to admit I weren’t biggest fan of Struber.......but you cannot fault what he did last year in keeping us up surely!
Last year around this time most of us were pretty happy with how Struber managed to keep us up. Sometimes his choices were ‘different’, but he achieved the aim of staying in the Championship. Shrewd work by the club ensured that when he left, a large hole in the finances were plugged, by the payment of his release clause. I always find it strange that people wish ill on players/managers when they leave on reasonable terms.
If he thinks our best striker since Ashley Ward is limited he should be thankful he wasn't here when we had Dave Regis. If he sees the squad that stayed up as limited then how does he explain pretty much the same group of players being in the play offs now he's gone. I liked him and he worked wonders for us. But the fee we got was worth losing him for and because we are so good at replacing the head coach I don't sweat it. He might realise like many before him that the grass isn't always greener elsewhere. Johnson, Heckingbottom and Stendel are all worse off than if they had wanted to stay with us. Struber might be next.
I don't think it was reasonable terms. In my opinion he tried to force a dismissal with his comments to the media, as he was desperate to leave for the NY gig. The club didn't say a word, and just waited until NY paid the money. Had that not been in the offing it's my opinion he he would have been sacked after what he was saying, he was completely undermining the club with no justification. He did a great job last season. But while Hecky and Stendel have legitimate complaints about how the squad was decimated, Struber didn't. We sold just one player in the summer but fetched in a number of players who were undoubtedly his recommendations, and others. We backed him yet his comments to the media how the club didn't match his own ambitions were entirely unprofessional, without credit and self serving with no thought for his employers the club or us the fans. Find it difficult to understand how anyone has a good word for him after the manner of his exit.
He thought he was that Limited he played him out of position? Surely his reasoning was that Cauley could step up to the role of a number 10 because he’s that good? Can’t fault what he achieved last season and I’ll be forever grateful, however, some of his team selections were puzzling at the best of times.
At the time I didn't understand the ill feelings directed at Struber but what you say is correct. Hindsight has shown without question that his claims were false, unfounded and unnecessary. He had the players. We know that now. All he had to do was adjust his tactics and attack.
Well I d Well I didn't Helen. I heard Dane Murphy say that we got a substantial fee for him,so it was interesting to read that it was $2.5M
Opinions eh, I wasn’t aware he tried to force dismissal. With the club benefitting from a $2.5m pay off I suppose it would have been a very costly decision to fire him for comments in the media. Anyway I thought he did a decent job, his move helped the club’s finances and I hope he succeeds.
I’ve got good words to say about him because he kept us up when we were absolutely doomed. Yes, some of his decisions were very peculiar and had us scratching our heads but they very often worked. He may not have left in the best manner but who does really? Nobody likes to see people leave our club who do well but it’s what we do (although maybe not this year if we do the miraculous). Luckily for us, everything worked out well with him leaving because once again the owners got in another good coach.
He had a defence and midfield. We played some superb stuff week after week, until we got to the other box. He didn't have an attack. Now we have. I don't for a minute think that we'd be where we are now if Struber was with us and we have our present squad, but I do believe we wouldn't be down in trouble. Some people have memories that don't even stretch back a season. Struber saved us from League 1, and is responsible for the opportunity we were given to be where we are now.
This is spot on, he did a wonderful job to keep us up but in hindsight probably should have departed the club on a high at the end of last season. The manner of his exit was poor (on his part) and you say would have likely been sacked had his negative comments about the board continued.
I am of the same opinion of him as you. He did wonders last season and got us playing some nice tidy football but he tarnished his reputation for me with the manner of his exit Plus he put blind faith in players that weren’t physically up to the rigours of the championship He clearly rejected the clubs proposals for player recruitment over his own decisions and look how that’s worked out (ie brittain) Hindsight’s a wonderful thing but his words of “not being in a relegation battle every season” has come back to bite him in the arse and if I was one of this group of players this season, I’d be using that as fuel for my fire!
Going back to the point about Woodrow. If Helik was penalty taker he'd be our top goalscorer. I think by his high standards he's had a poor season in front of goal.
