Yeah the bad mouthings not called for and he did a great job for us especially after lockdown . No complaints from me about him and if he used it to feather his own nest good luck to him he saved us and that’s all that mattered to me tbh .
Managers either get sacked or move on to a bigger & better payed role if the succeed. Other than a few big clubs that is the same throughout the leagues. The fact Struber moved on is he achieved the semi impossible in keeping us up last season. Big Val will probably go in the summer, unless we achieve promotion. Even then I would suspect it would be down to budget & signings. The negative press about our football style may put off a few bigger clubs, so that may work in our favour if we reached the promised land. Who knows.
https://www.onceametro.com/2021/9/4...red-bulls-with-mixed-results-but-more-promise The last head coach was sacked at this stage last season when NYRB were doing better. He's lost half their twenty games. They might not make the play offs for the first time in a decade. The voices of discontent will grow if he doesn't turn it around.
Because he's a crap manager who picks his friends to the detriment of the team and who frankly got extremely lucky that everything went his way post lockdown. The players kept us up not the manager
Bit harsh. I thought everyone played their part, Struber included. Was he a good manager? Debatable. But he was a cog in the incredible machine that kept us up.
Should have tried getting Sollbauer over. I credit Sollbauer more than anyone in keeping us up that season. For me a true BFC great and in such a short period of time.
He was an anchor weighing us down. The players had to overcome his pathetic tactics as well as the opposition. In my opinion of course.
I share your opinion on struber, kept us up but really by default as wigan overspent. The season after in his games in charge we couldn't even score a goal from open play. Palmer gave a interview where he said struber had the team aiming to avoid the drop and that would be successful, when val came he was alot more positive and believed the team should be aiming much higher
They're not going to sack him after paying us £2m compo ! He's back in the red bull set up so will get moved around there. I thought he did a decent job to keep us up but should have left on a high at the end of that season. The start of the following season was a ******* disaster. All that tippy tappy nonsense!
I think Struber's amazing. Seven points adrift with nine games left - to keep us up from that position is astonishing. The football wasn't beautiful, but I couldn't care less about that. Win beautifully or unattractively, and I'll love you. Lose beautifully or unattractively, and I'll want you out. Having accomplished something with us - keeping us up - he, like Valerie, had the right to decide when he was going to leave. I hope he turns it around with his current team, because I have a lot of happy memories of him.
I think this thread is a much broader subject than the merits of Struber. Barnsley’s policy of recruiting young and untried talent from under the radar has become the key point of bringing them in. Prospective players and managers see BFC as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. I think we will have a reasonable season maybe making the playoffs and I won’t be surprised to see our current manager moving on along with a couple of our good developing players. It’s what we do.
Been linked in the media this week to Crystal Palace and Watford....... https://www.onceametro.com/2021/9/7...rd-struber-being-linked-to-the-premier-league Palace I cannot see. Viera has only just taken over and Palace had a ageing side so he needs to be given time to rebuild. Watford could have legs in it as they like 2 or 3 bosses a season. It would make the Premier League a bit more interesting if Gerhard was in it.
Watford wanted him whilst he was here. I think that's why he got the hump pretended he had no strikers and went to New York to be honest.
But didn’t a certain other manager do a great job - another miracle- in keeping us up, but turned out to be a bit sht?
