Yeah it might have been an attempt to help save us money in the long run. But Robins departure and what happened a few years later, cost us goodness knows how much more.
I wonder just how much of a budget he was asking for, surely it wasn't an absolute fortune, and just think of where we could have ended up. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been how we ended up under Hill and Flitcroft and Wilson etc.

With hill and flicker we made the mistake of letting them bring there own signings in the old mates mostly. We appointed Wilson but then adopted the new recruitment of young up and coming players, Wilson wasn't keen but was able to bring in a few experienced players he wanted like lita, turnbull, treacy.

I'll still always be a fan of Wilson of course, but sadly it just didn't feel right the second time. I know it was a different time and completely different circumstances etc, but I'm surprised he didn't keep us up in 2014.
But I think he says some interesting things in his book about that time though, along the lines of interference and broken promises etc!.

Place was toxic when he took over. Half of the squad were with the same agent that Hill & Flitcroft had.

Allegedly both only wanted to pick their own players signed to the same agent.

That’s why you’d get a refusal to play Foster & Hassell unless there was no alternative or you’d get Stones been dropped for Wiseman.

After Flitcroft went they wanted to start & get rid of Hill / Flitcrofts players but that led to the disaster in January with agents recommending players who were supposedly ‘desperate’ to play like Frimpong, Shea, Proschwitz etc.

It didn’t work well for Wilson but in the end it worked well for the club getting shut of them all & rebuilding with young players.

I actually thought Nick Prozzie was an ok signing on loan, he had goals in him and with Chris O'Grady up front as well, I really think that squad and manager should have kept us up. But there's no telling how bad things were behind the scenes, which I'm sure did make it a hostile place to work.
Then of course we had the usual exodus of players leaving the sinking ship, Steele, O'Grady, Mellis & Cywca to name a few.
