It depends on how you define success. For me, having a club that is a central part of the community and offers value outside of Saturday 3pm would be a massive success. And Pompey have a good way - you get a vote if you pay a 5er. I'd go as far to say if you bought a ticket or even were on the database you became an associate member. Single vote at the AGM. Or in fact I dunno, that's a bit specific for what I've been talking about.
I'd definitely want it, and would be more than willing to get involved in trying to put a plan together if required. All the drawbacks people have pointed out on here are fair, but for me there's nothing I'd like more than for the club to be owned by the fans, and it's probably the best model there is. My view is that there's no sense in not having a go.
Yup, but why don't all/majority of fans join the trust ? That needs asking, and the reasons addressing before you can even start to think beyond.
How many 'free' ones Hicksy? I think the Trust have some work to do to improve that before it can ever shake of the 'closed shop' image that many still think it has.
From a historical perspective I think the Supporters Trust has been seen as ineffective and ineffectual failing to represent the views of fans effectively and acted more as a mouthpiece for the club than a supporters group. A lot of bridges were burned. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case now but there is definitely that image problem. I think the idea of Supporter Ownership is an interesting one and I suspect in the next 10 to 20 years more and more clubs will follow this model. Will one be us? I can't say I know I'd quite like it to be if a sustainable model could found. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
As well as all the things that Jay has mentioned, which have all been voiced when this has been discussed at Trust meetings, there isn't a particularly good track record for Supporter Owned clubs. Brentford, York City, Chesterfield etc etc. Supporter representation on the board or part ownership seems a more achievable goal but as people have all ready mentioned that has its own problems.
Correct. In all honesty the Trust needs to re-invent itself but it needs new blood involved to do that IMHO
Re: Nope Well, one's the man who's money it is, the others are the people he trusts. None of whom claim to be representing 'us' as their mandate. They work - hopefully - for the good of BFC in the real world. Not an idealised one.
I am yeah. Me and the other half both are. We got an email a while back, but that's all we ever got. It's not a criticism. I know the intentions are good. I'm of the 'lead, follow or get out the way' school. I just opted to 'get out the way', as it felt increasingly like a closed shop.
