We have a representative democracy. Each area votes for the MP to represent them. Perhaps though one solution of the English votes for English matters is to make an English assembly based on PR or AV.
indeed we have but it has been manipulated over the decades to suit the main two parties.Still doesn't get away from the fact that a party is returned to office on the back of a count where above half the people don't want them. the local mp's have very little say in what goes through the commons as a whole,the whips see to that.
most people I know were against AV,they wanted PR,not an over complicated compromise. Must say tho',had AV been offered during the thatcher years most would have taken it.
it did ark you are right,but many voted against it because they were scared of the bnp making inroads.Like I say,had it been around during the thatcher years then I doubt the result would have been the same.
