No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Not the goalscorer he was for Southampton, but he's big, strong lad, good in the air, can finish, and he doesn't shirk a challenge. If it comes to ten minutes to play and we desperately need to keep lumping it into the box to snatch a goal, rather him than anyone else that's been mentioned.

    Yes

But both are good. My only problem with that squad is Hardgreaves ... another Phillip Neville in my book [IMG][IMG]

Ashton's time will come. He's another one who, for his size, doesn't mix it well though.

There's Beattie, or there's Heskey. One of them can score. Sometimes.

Why take a fifth striker though if you are only playing one up top?

It'd be like taking 5 goalkeepers.

Svens got his formation sorted and has picked the squad accordingly. Not saying I agree like but at least he's grown some nuts and taken a risk (re. Walcott)

Big, strong lumps up front don't work against European defenders though. Drogba for example in the Champions league against Barcelona. The ref blew up everytime he got anywhere near the ball because the defenders threw themselves on the floor.

International forwards need subtlety/pace/goals. Beattie provides none.

Wouldn't start with him, but we have limited options. Defoe and Owen are too similar (and there's still doubts about Owen being match fit), Crouch is predictable and Walcott is untried.

I just like to have alternatives.

Agreed, but the alternatives are few and far between.

IMO Crouch does the 'single striker' role as good as anyone. He brings the midfielders into play and rarely gives the ball away because of his quality on the ball. I agree that he doesn't utilise his height/strength as much as he should.

The likely scenario is Owen and Rooney to start. If neither are fit he'll start with Crouch up front perhaps with Joe Cole just behind. Not the most prolific but there are plenty of goals in the midfield.

Clearly Bent/Defoe were never in his plans (he has rarely started either) and so why not throw in the youngster as a wild card.

The big problem with the squad is two of the strikers who he is taking are not match fit and it is highly unlikely that he will even make the final (shud we get there)I am pleased to see him take lennon and downing however i dont like his descision not to take wright-phillips who always seems dangerous when he plays for England,i would also pick king over campell and take an extra striker over Hargreaves so all in all im not very happy about his selection, i just hope it wasn't influenced by Mclaren:-|

I'd take Kevin Davies over both of them.

    Yes

Lennon has been great lately. Besides, he also has Gerrard and Joe Cole who can play on the left.

Wright-Phillips blew his chance as soon as he signed for Chelsea. Plenty of us said the same thing on here.
